Anyone remembers this middleweight? 6'2 with a 79-inch reach and could really punch. I just watched his upset over Tony Sibson he could really punch. From Gary Indiana, he didn't do much after the Sibson loss, I'm going to have to watch his fight with Michael Olajide. Apparently, he had some legal troubles as well not really surprising because he was from Gary Indiana which back in the 70's was the murder capital of the USA. Anyone have more information on Don?
The only things that I really remember about him were that he had a very good amateur record and I thought he’d be a better pro. Also, I remember him being, at least for a while, a sparing partner of Tommy Hearns.
Talented puncher. Loved the way he put his punches together, was hittable and chinny too. Very fun fighter. Was destroyed in a round early in his career by Artie McCloud. Later the breakthrough win over Sibson(floored twice himself), next up was Doug Dewitt, haven´t seen the fight but unusually all three judges had it scored it a draw! Fought well against Michael Olajide (arguably the talented Olajide´s best performance) but his chin let him down and could quite find the punch to put the Canadian down. Watson dominated him, he was lucky he got stopped on cuts because he was going to get koed in the next couple of rounds. A loss to up and coming Jess Harding seemed to have finished him off but jumped to Super-middle. Picked up a NABF crown, had a war with the brave but crude Paul Whitaker in his 1st defense. Dropped twice early on, came blazing back to score 4 knockdowns but couldnt stop hitting Whitaker whilst down so disqualified. One more routine win before retiring. Whitaker got a World title shot, Don Lee must have been so close to a big fight. Seems to be an microcosm for his whole career. This content is protected
Remember when they brought out Lee to fight Jeff Harding at LHW. Obviously Lee was on the decline and LHW was not his division. Also remember they also brought out Mathew Saad Muhammad as a sparring for Harding . Remember them interviewing Saad on local TV and really was sad as the once great Saad should never ended up in this position.
