Two fighters progressively fighting worse opponents eventually duking it out to see who is less shot?

A draw is always possible as well, and that's assuming they fight at all.

The winner is going to get some sort of historical credit. It certainly won't be the same as if they fought each other six years ago, but it will be the best indicator of who is the better man.

The fight outcome strongly suggests Dubois would have beaten him if they fought previously.

It also creates an opening for guys like Kabayel to rate above him

Sure, but it doesn't change the fact that their legacies are going further down the toilet with some of their recent opponents. Prenga, Jake Paul, Ngannou, Wach etc are pretty shameful for guys who are supposed to be among the best of this generation.

It doesn't matter. He is a historically significant figure. That is why people like the fight.

I don't think that at all. It just doesn't work that way. Foreman's legacy did not decline because of fighting the Steve Zouskis of the world.

Ngannou hurt Fury--that much is true. Agreed.

Let's revisit his historical significance in say 20.years

Proliferation of belts means that championship claims are increasingly not viewed as significant and that's his major claim to fame

He unified three out of four belts.

No need to revisit. His legacy is that he is the #3 heavy between Klitschko's defeat and Uyk's abdication. If he manages to beat Fury, he will be #2.

Apples to oranges when it comes to Foreman. I don't recall him fighting youtubers or MMA fighters.

Nope. Dubois and Kabayel have a good argument for ranking above him. Of course Itauma could turn out to be better as well

The fact that he unified three belts while largely fighting guys who were past it and missing out on young prime opponents suggests that's not the accomplishment some make it out to be.

In your opinion, who is the single most deserving challenger to get a crack at Usyk right now? Based on merit?

But he fought former cruisers with very poor records.
