We must assume Hagler is of the same era of Langford and the two must clash. 20 rounds at Middle. Small horse hair gloves,4-6 ounces , almost no protection for the hands and inflicted terrible facial damage. No ref intervention , inside wrestling , holding and hitting. Two of the toughest sobs throwing leather. Who?
Personally I actually think this fight is even too much for Hagler The physical toll of Langford s inside wrestling and the sheer power of the Boston Bone crusher takes its toll and breaks down even the legendary Marvin Hagler. By the 17-19 rounds Marvin s eyes are swollen shut from the destruction from the tiny gloves. Causing a doctor or ref intervention.
Hagler's era was way deeper and more professional than Langford's. He clearly had more refinned skills too. Goto go with him on that basis
I’d go with Langford. Marv had a great beard but he still respected and reacted to decent power - see the Duran fight - and Sam carried somewhat more than just decent power in his mitts.
is this the guy? Let's see some footwork. Floyd mayweather he isnt. I'll go with my moderns any day of the week This content is protected
its a lot of hype, most of it word of mouth that people of today tend to buy into. Hagler we have plenty of film on, a good 20 fights or more. I'll need to see more film before jumping on the bandwagon
Marvin’s minions would blame the glove size, the fact that it wasn’t for exactly 15 rounds, the size of the ring … the color of the ropes, the lighting rig, the barometric pressure and the nationality of the judges (even if it ended in KO) if he lost.
Fun fact Langford and Hagler's lives actually overlap for 2 years. They aren't as far removed as one might think.
During that two year window I think Sam def. kicks Hagler’s ass. Sure, there would be the familiar cries that Marv was too “green”…whatever.
Langford to me is the greatest p4p fighter of all time. But I seriously doubt he makes a fool of Hagler who in my opinion is second all time at middleweight after Greb. Marvin was an incredibly well rounded fighter and had a cast iron chin. I wouldn't argue against a win for Langford. I wouldn't argue against a win for Hagler. But neither makes a fool of the other. I think this would be a great and competitive fight.
