Joe Frazier vs Usyk

Usyk took 11 rounds to land an uppercut on Rico.

Usyk could not floor the limited slow Chisora with an uppercut.

Usyk isn’t half the combination puncher Ali was.

the idea of Usyk stopping Frazier isn’t just unlikey, it’s flat out ridiculous. Usyk has no chance of stopping Frazier. Zero. The tippy tappy combinations aren’t going to stop Frazier .

Usyk stopping Frazier in six rounds is one of the most lauaguable arguments I have ever seen. Lol

Easy money fight. Usyk all day. Would not wager anything against a much smaller guy fighting Usyk. People should know that by now.

 

Stylistically a bad fight for Olek. Men closer to Usyk’s size gave him more trouble than the slower, less skilled and notably stamina challenged behemoths that he later slayed.

Frazier’s size in this match up is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Even against the best and smoothest of boxers, plans have to change when a swarmer like Joe starts smok’n’.

I’m not saying that Usyk is necessarily weak in the body but that belly would be put under its most severe testing against Frazier.

Just imo, Frazier’s got this via UD or later round stoppage.

 

Usyk wins by points in 12 rounds; Frazier wins on points in 15 rounds.

 

Joe doesn't have the right hand necessary for me to favor him in this. Being a smaller orthodox fighter (look at Usyk vs Mchunu if you want a visual of the size comparison of someone with Joe's dimensions) puts you at a natural disadvantage with the left hook against a southpaw.

You guys want to take that leap of faith, have at it. I'd love if there was evidence of Joe chopping down a bigger southpaw so we could see how he'd have handled it. Hell, I'd love if we saw any evidence of him against any lefty. There is none.

Doesn't mean I'd pick every southpaw over him, but I can't say I'd love his chances of figuring out an elite one on the spot with no exposure to them and a natural handicap to his biggest weapon.

 

There is absolutely no evidence Usyk can handle a great body puncher with incredible endurance.

The left hook (particularly to liver) is incredibly effective vs southpaws. See Innoue as an example.

Frazier's hooks will take away Usyk's jab. If Usyk tries to extend his jab, Frazier can nail him with left hooks to the body. If he defends the body, he leaves the head open.

Which great left hookers has Usyk actually faced? Gassiev is heavy handed but slow as hell and has nowhere near the speed or ring cutting ability of Frazier. Bellew is nothing compared to Frazier and the threat of Bellew's left hook made Usyk reluctant to jab early until Bellew slowed down. Well, Frazier is the most well conditioned heavyweight ever and unlike Bellew, he isn't slowing down.

The left hook is the second most effective shots vs southpaws. Guys like Mayweather, Innoue, Toney etc. used it repeatedly to hurt southpaws with.

I don't think we'll be changing each other's minds here, so much as entrenching our current positions. For all we know, Joe would've been a southpaw killer, so if that's the road you'd like to pick in this Choose Your Own Adventure book, enjoy!

For me, I'm just going down a different path. Those guys weren't giving up the size and reach vs the southpaws they beat to the extent Joe would be. Gone unmentioned is another key point- none of them were legally blind in their left eye, which would've made Usyk's longer lead hand practically invisible unless Joe wins the footwork positioning battle. And maybe he would. Odds are we'll agree to disagree on that one, too

Remind me again, which man won a gold medal at light heavy and which man won a gold medal at heavy? And, honest question -- for Usyk's CW fights, do you think his RING weight was under 200lbs?

I see people making this argument and it's just odd. They were about the same size at about the same ages across their entire careers.

 

You mean like the greatest heavyweight of all time Ali did? Usyk AIN'T Ali.. he gets stopped in the 12th, if he makes it that far
