Have Matchroom given up on UK shows?

I think he said something about taking a break from shows during the world cup. The last thing anyone wants is to go up against an England game.

 

I suspect it's more that the casual fans have only got so much money and it'll go into lobbing pints at each other in awful beer gardens rather than coke in the toilets at the O2.

 

3 UK shows announced today.

22/08 - Liddard vs Morello (European Middleweight title)

19/09 - Hedges vs Brown (British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight title)

03/10 - Whittaker vs Wallace (IBF LHW Final Eliminator)

 

Could put them 3 on the same card and it would still be crap. Matchroom are done in the UK.

 

How many of these fights will actually happen ?

Over the past six months, Matchroom has had to cancel a significant number of main events.

 

Feels like they're trying to push George through a bit too fast, maybe in fear of losing Sains and needing replacements for Conor and Bosh.

Liddard has a lot of potential, but Matchroom have made this mistake before, pushing lads straight into European class before they're ready and they end up getting exposed, like Ritson and Cheeseman.

Still think he wins, but Tyler showed he shouldn't be moved too fast.

 

makes me miss the 2014 - 2020 golden era so much, the sport is so different today, loved those big fights back then, getting home from work on a Friday and watching the weight in and interviews on Skysports news the day before the big fight, everything just felt so different.

 

How on earth in Whittaker in a final eliminator? How on earth is Wallace in a final eliminator? The UK LHW scene is stacked and this is what we get.

The glory days mate. All the undercards were worth watching. There was that many good shows me and my pals had to pick & choose which ones to attend.

 

No worries mate, not sure why I even know those dates. Think I saw them etched on an epitaph in Brick-Top's office.

What do you think actually kickstarted it though? Had this debate with some AJ fans in the pub once and they couldn't handle it when I said Froch-Groves was the real spark for the British boxing revival, not Joshua turning over.

Obviously AJ mania inflated the bubble, then Ruiz burst it.

 

Matchroom UK is basically either NXTGEN-level or PPV these days.

Slightly concerned Warren might be heading in that direction a bit too now there’s ‘Ultimate’ subscriptions that need selling. Anything fancier than York Hall or Copper Box-level stuff ends up on PPV.
