Hagler vs everyone between Walker and Zale?

I think I was looking at this all wrong in retrospect.

I was considering Marvelous Marvin vs. everyone between Walker and Zale chronologically.

But what if we consider Hagler vs. all top middleweights between Walker and Zale … alphabetically? That’s a different kettle of fish.

It really comes down to Johnny Wilson — the man who lost the title to Greb — and Teddy Yarosz, who also fell between Walker and Zale chronologically while also being between the W’s and the Z’s.

Wilson was a very good fighter but, I think, not so much a great one. He has a couple of nice wins for sure, but the preponderance of top names on his resume defeated him. As would Hagler.

Yarosz is a tougher proposition, I think. He’s more of a won-some/lost-some guy against the very top names he fought but probably has a bit of a better resume and the advantage of having Ray Arcel in his corner. Marvin may win this one too, but it’s not a cinch and it wouldn’t be easy.

 

Doesn't work like that tho.. its not just writers opinions, we have their resumes & resume is king.. for instance we never saw Greb but we know he had his way with Walker, Loughran & Tunney.. & we've seen how exceptional they were.. therefore we can deduce how good Greb was...

.. & that's a helluva list for one man to 'destroy' .. especially when u consider Hagler didn't exactly destroy Vito (pre minter) Duran or Leonard..

Freddie Steele for instance is imo one of the most underrated Fighters in the history of boxing... turned pro at just 13... at 105 pounds! Yet just a few years later would morph into a world champion and all time great puncher at MW.. was the only man ever to stop the great Vince Dundee in a one-sided beat down.. & one of only two men to stop Ken Overlin also.

Also defeated a lot of other top fighters in a very short time .. Ceferino Garcia, Fred Apostoli, Gus Lesnevich, Gorilla Jones, Babe Risko, and Solly Kreiger.. only had 5 defeats in 142 fights & was only stopped towards the end of his career..

You think Hagler walks through someone that good? I don't.. i highly doubt he destroys prime Walker too.

 

Steele is the obvious choice.
Yarosz
Apostoli and Overlin can give Marvin a long night as well

Agree wholeheartedly with your pics, excellent choices, Overlin was likened to Greb, so he most definitely would give Hagler problems, and the hard as nails Apostoli, would also be a stern test as well, but he had to be " on it " as Bimstein said " when he fancied the fight he could have beaten Louis, when he didn't , anyone could have beaten him " The fighting bellhop.

McAvoy & Steele was proposed and never materialized, so there's that...

but Mac, Steele & Apostoli are perhaps the strongest of the bunch.
