Ali beat up an aging Liston with an injured left shoulder and knee.

Liston got exposed long before Ali when a 177 lbs journeyman gave him the fits 3 times and said he was "simple".

Worth noting that the only one of their three fights Liston lost was the first, which was only his 7th fight overall. He dropped Marshall four times in their second bout to a win by 6th round TKO. He soundly beat him by UD in their third bout, with Marshall running for his life past the even first round.

Additionally, their first fight was in 1954 and their third in 1956. Not at all the same Liston who cleared the division from 1958 to 1962, sans those who refused to fight him. The same way that the Ali that got dropped by Cooper (and might not have won without smelling salts) was not the same Ali that beat him easily in their rematch 3 years later.

Part of if was Ali being uncommonly quick and mobile. The other part was Sonny had been spending alot of time in Las Vegas. He was idol almost two years.
Vegas had Sonny aging in dog years. He was not in top condition for that fight and he needed to be. His weight was 218lbs a little heavy.

Was Tyson exposed by Douglas? I’d say no. Just as I don’t think Liston was exposed. Many champs just become extremely inactive (think he fought three rounds in like three years). They’re rich atm and don’t want to train. They’re getting laid in the back rooms before fights. They reached the mountain top and stop caring because they hit their goal. It’s rarer to get the Louis, Ali, Holmes, Marciano, Wlad typed who stay consistent and train hard throughout their runs

Is that the guy that beat Sonny via split decision (after being dropped in the 1st) in Liston's 8th pro fight at 180 pounds?

The 181 pound guy who, two fights later, Liston dropped 4 times in the rematch, stopping him in 6??? Can you please explain how he gave Liston "fits" in this fight?

The 179 pound guy who lost the last 9 rounds in a row to Liston in the rubber match? So Liston losing 1 round in a 10 rounder means he was given "fits" by Marshall? LOL

You conveniently chose Marshall's lightest weight of all three bouts....surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pity Liston flogged the living daylights out of him 2 out of 3 fights.

Yeah, also broke his jaw despite being smaller than Edgar Berlanga. Lmao.
He literally dropped Liston in the fifth round. Took the fight on 3 days notice too.
We don't even have the footage for these fights, you can't possibly know that. All we know is that Liston got his jaw broken by and lost to a 177 lbs journeyman, got dropped by him in the rematch on 3 days notice, and failed to stop him again in their rubber match, where Marty similarly took the fight on 6 days notice. All we have are the words of people and press, and even then Marty said Liston came to him after the match and said "you almost got me in the 7th" after their 3rd match. All evidence points to Marty being a struggle for Liston in all of their matches.
You're right man I'm sorry, Marty being 4 lbs heavier changes everything.
Liston can't flog the daylights out of anyone unless they actively choose to stand in front of him, feet stuck in cement.

    And?

He literally didn't. This was debunked again and again.

There's press releases, Liston whooped him. You're reaching for the worst you can, lies and misinformation. To claim he gave Liston fits in all 3 fights is total bull****, quite frankly. He had him up and down like a yoyo in fight II before stopping him. He almost stopped him multiple times in III.

What it does is underline a clear agenda. We've seen the same types of agenda hundreds of times in here. It's invariably the heaviest or lightest weight depending on ones agenda.

    Oh dear

From February 1962 to February 1964 Sonny Liston fought a total of 2 rounds!! (Both Patterson KO's were only a round each.) Combine that with lax training and preparation (Sonny was WAYYY overconfident and thought Ali would be another quick KO) along with physical problems (shoulder, knee) and Sonny was simply in no condition to take on the fastest HW to ever lace on a pair of gloves!

The overwhelming consensus going into the fight was that Ali was a mouthy kid who Liston would dispatch with ease. Nobody foresaw what ultimately took place. (Angelo Dundee said it best when he stated that Sonny got old right before his eyes in that fight!)

Sonny had chronic left knee problems that were originally sustained while training for the Patterson fights--it was still an issue (along with his shoulder ailments) leading up to the first Ali fight.

Liston's camp had actually requested a postponement but was denied. But Sonny's overconfidence was to the point where he didn't think his physical issues would matter--he would still make short work out of Ali regardless!
