This content is protected After Tim Tszyu (28-3) comfortably beats Errol Spence Jr at the Afterpay Arena in Sydney, an event I got the opportunity to watch in person at the venue, he proceeded to call out Erislandy Lara (32-3-3), current WBA Middleweight World Champion, stating that he feels comfortable at 160 and would like a portion of the middleweight belts. Currently rated #3 by BoxRec at 160, only below Carlos Adames and Lara, Tszyu has won 4 of his last 5 fights, and although only 1 was via knockout, all 3 decisions were clear and certain. In his only loss out of those 5 fights, he took an immense beating from the tallest 153 champion of all time, Sebastian Fundora. As for his contemporary and call-out victim Erislandy Lara, he's rated #1 by BoxRec, and has won all his last 5 fights, 3 by knockout. 1 by corner retirement and 1 by unanimous decision. His most recent loss, a split decision to Jarrett Hurd and gave his only other 2 losses (Canelo Alvarez and Paul Williams) a close fight. If this fight were to happen in Australia I would purchase tickets in a heartbeat. But if this were to really happen, who would win and how/why?
Tim Tszyu first thoughts. But only due to Lara's age. I haven't seen him fight since he knocked out zerafa. Tszyu didn't impress me tbh. He'd have to improve on today's performance.
Initial bet would be on Tim due to Lara's age/inactivity (last fight being Dec of '25) and Tim's performance last night vs Spence whom himself wasn't active for 3 long years but as of right now Tim beats Lara.
Lara never lost to Williams! It was one of the worst robberies I ever seen! As for who would win, i pick Lara clearly, unless he starts to show his age and get old over night.
Lara by one of his occasional out of nowhere horrific KO1's that he's known for. We've already seen the difference in punching power between Spence and Lara with Danny Garcia.
