Mad if true that Liston sparred Galento.

And re Pug posting again, yeah, great poster, it's been so long it'd feel like the year 2000 all over again if he was back.

Pugguy was banned during time McGrain was warning people the mods won't tolerate it IIRC.

    Around July-September time last year.

Occam's Razor- Styles make fights. Ali was just a bad draw for him. I also reject the notion he was a washed fighter. He looked like a billlion dollars against Floyd in his previous two fights. That's because Floyd brought the fight to him.

If you watch the fight closely, Liston showed excellent reflexes and headmovement. He slipped the Ali jab really well - he just got caught cos Ali varied the speed and doubled and tripled his jab.

Why do people say Sonny was washed when in his previous two fights he obliterated poor Floyd?

Liston didn't need to be at his absolute best to destroy Patterson. By the time he fought Ali, he was already in his mid-to-late 30s, had logged less than five minutes of ring time over the previous three years, and entered the fight with shoulder and knee injuries. I wouldn't necessarily call him washed, but it's obvious he was no longer the same fighter who had bulldozed his way through the division just a few years earlier.

Regarding Liston's shoulder injury, it wasn't something that was invented after the fight. It had already been noted beforehand. He abruptly stopped sparring during the final week of training, prompting Angelo Dundee to correctly suspect something was wrong:

"As long as I've been in boxing, I never heard of any man quitting his sparring a week before an important fight unless he was very stale or hurt in some way."

There were also reports before the fight indicating that Liston was dealing with a sore shoulder. One report noted:

"One of Liston's sparring partners, Leotis Martin, said at the weigh-in ceremonies that Liston was as sharp as could be. But there was a report on Sunday that Sonny's left shoulder had been sore in his last five workouts."

All this is well and good, and maybe true. But the question arises:

If Liston's shoulder was so damaged as to force him to stop sparring, then why the heck he went ahead with the fight? Why he didnt just said "my shoulder hurts"? Did Liston look for medical treatment or ask to delay the fight?

Is there some evidence Liston or his handlers asked for a medical check/treatment? Is there some evidence Liston or his handlers tried to postpone the fight?

    Something doesnt add here.
