Paul Fleming self funded an eliminator vs Charlie Suarez. Fleming was up on the cards into round 12. Suarez knocked him out and signed a contract with Top Rank that led to the Navarette title fight.

 

Billel Dib saw he was supposed to fight for a world title years ago but his Visa got denied. Harsh.

 

Hard one to get a read on. Somewhere between top 20 and 30 I'd image.

 

How ironic though that a highly fancied african american prospect scrapes past a 40 year old Ukranian journeyman ( I actually think Derevyanchenko was more than that ) and Kellerman and Ward wax lyrical about him. Yet an aussie fighting his way back from a couple of humiliating defeats receives very little recognition stateside after beat a 36 year old future HOF'er. Seems a bit out of whack,yes?

 

Kellerman and Ward commentate on a rival channel so I’d be more surprised if they mentioned Tszyu at all tbh.

 

Dylan Briggs' opponent for Aug 30 is Turkish Kenan Kuzel.
Guzel has won K1 and muay thai World titles with a 29-5 record with 25 wins by stoppage and is a current Intercontinental boxing champion with a 7-0 record with 5 ko.

 

The last time a fighter beat Errol Spence, they made him Fighter of the Year based solely on doing so. Kostya Tszyu went in against Ricky Hatton with less than 3 rounds under his belt in two & a half years previous & coming off two achilles operations but you'll never see British fans mention that b/c it diminishes their own guy's achievement. Tim's win was unspectacular but solid. I had it all square after six but he clearly had the better of the second half of the fight. If Errol never fights again, that win will age well on Tim's record. It looks pretty good on there as it is. Errol would have come in well prepared (no drug testing, remember) & ready to win. He made a mistake not getting into the country earlier but many who fight here do the same. Tim met him at the front door & had him back-pedaling for most of the fight. He was still dangerous with the jab & left hand (in particular) when he was able to land them. Tim has more to give & a world title win next up at Middleweight is achievable. Win that & unification fights come into play. Tim continues to fly the flag for Australia on the international stage. Long may it flutter. I think Paulo Aokuso & Callum Peters served notice on the day against international opponents that their fortunes are worth following also. Both will climb higher.

Just watched a replay of Paul Trainor's fight in the Light Heavyweight division of the Commonwealth games this morning. Very close & could have gone either way, but this time it went ours. 3:2 split decision to Trainor over the Namibian after trailing slightly for most of the fight. Unlucky for the African but our bloke goes through to the Quarters.

 

I have to give Fenech credit. I had severe doubts about him, but his tactical intelligence was the difference in that fight. If Tszyu been attacking blindly like vs Murtazaliev, Spence would have chinned him out of there in two or three rounds.

But as for the saveloy galloping over Tim's achievement, it was built on pure No Limit hype, it wasn't even a title fight, and when better boxers do amazing things we barely hear of it due to biased media. Get a grip people.

 

Mate Spence was shot he looked like Bambi on ice skates, no balance, no power, no reflexes totally shot. this was always going to be a test of who is the most shot, Spence who was shot against Bud three years ago or Tszyu who was brutally bashed every time he fought an elite 154 pounder. Paulo came back after he looked dead against a nobody. Callum will have to change his come forward face first attitude as he faces higher ranked opponents. IMO.

 

Spence was the favourite on all betting platforms & you picked him to win. You're the same bloke who was on here nearly a decade ago complaining that Tim hadn't taken on anyone in the Boxrec top 150. Wade Ryan was in the top 100 when Tim faced him so you've been getting things wrong about him for a very long time. I appreciate that you're frustrated that he's had another win & will possibly be challenging for a world title in his next start, but you need to let those of us who have backed him from the beginning enjoy what will be remembered as one of his best wins if not one of his best ever performances. As for Paulo Aokuso, yes, he looked gone after 7 against a physically strong & willing opponent. He did a great job in my view to pull himself together & finish with a big kayo. I've said several times during Callum Peters' amateur career that he gets hit a lot. That's one we can agree on but it doesn't mean he won't be climbing higher which is what I've said.
