Prenga was, give or take, a 20/1 underdog going in. This was not against a prime Anthony Joshua, but against an Anthony Joshua who everyone knew was well past his best, perhaps even shot. This gives us an idea how poorly Prenga was regarded by boxing insiders.

Prenga is, according to Boxrec, the 2nd best HW in Albania. This puts him below Nelson Hysa; a fighter with a totally manufactured record, amateur and pro. Hysa has beat 10 "one star" opponents on Boxrec, Prenga only 6. And unlike Prenga, Hysa is undefeated as a pro with extensive amateur experience. As another vague barometer for how highly they are regarded, Hysa has 379 followers on Boxrec to Prenga's 106, and Hysa hasn't had the benefit of an attention-grabbing fight with a big name.

Prenga had a record of 20-1 with 20 wins inside the distance, and he's billed as 6'5, 260 lbs. But who did he fight?

His best win by a distance was his 5th round stoppage over a very faded 28-12-4 Joey Dawejko, in what was a competitive fight before Dawejko bizarrely fell on the floor with a "bicep injury".

Prenga took 3 rounds to stop "Samuel Crossed", who Badou Jack KO'd in 2 and Jermaine Franklin-victim Dychko KO'd in 75 seconds.

Prenga stopped "Juan Torres" in 2, journeyman Alexander Flores KO'd Torres in 52 seconds.

Prenga had seven 1st round stoppage wins, seven opponents extended Prenga past 2 rounds, and three extended him beyond 4 (including a 40 year old who was 30-50 lbs overweight, who took Prenga to the 6th).

Prenga is certainly a bigger puncher than Jermaine Franklin but his record does not suggest world level power, despite his proven ability to stop low level journeymen and club fighters early (none of his opponents pre-AJ have a Wikipedia page). Of his 20 wins, 13 are listed as "TKO's", to 7 "KO's" (in Prenga's last 6 wins, 5 were "TKO's")

Franklin himself was 11-0, 10 by stoppage, 8 in the 1st round at one time, before a slight step up exposed his total lack of power.

Prenga managed to lose an 8 round decision to a 1-2 nobody who he had beaten previously. Giovanni Auriemma is a sub-6 foot HW who retired with a 2-6-2 record, 2 losses by KO, whose only other win was over an 0-1 fighter. Despite none of his ten opponents having more than 9 fights when he fought them, with two of them being debutants, and another two having just 1 fight, the Italian never stopped any of them. Granted Prenga lost to this guy in 2017 and had apparently transitioned from kickboxing with no amateur boxing record, but it's still shocking. I do not believe a 26 year old heavyweight with "world level power" and a combat sports background would lose an 8 rounder to such a low level opponent.

When he fought AJ, 35 year old Prenga had just over a decade of pure boxing experience. Prenga started kickboxing at 20 and switched to boxing at 25.

Assuming Joshua-Prenga was not fixed going into the 2nd round, Prenga has the worst finishing instincts seen in a pro boxing ring since Kevin Lerena dropped Dubois x3 in round 1, as well as no engine, no defence and no chin.

Prenga is not a serious heavyweight and he's not a puncher at world level. Andy Ruiz was also not a big world level puncher (despite many AJ fanboys claiming otherwise), though he was far better than Prenga, and Ruiz stopped a much more durable version of Joshua. AJ's chin in 2026 is simply made of wet tissue paper.

I've been away, but there's no way Joshua fans are saying Prenga was a serious heavyweight. I hope.

I've been seeing it a lot. Hearn told them that "Prenga's uppercut would have KO'd a horse" and suddenly Prenga became a serious heavyweight contender at world level.

Damm I really ruffled your feathers.

Out of all the "inflammatory" stuff I say calling a 20-2 fighter with an 100% KO rate a "serious HW" is clearly a bridge too far.

Are we citing boxrec "followers" as a point? Really? By this logic Jake Paul is probably in the top 10. Because 200 more Albanians clicked a button for Hysa he's the better HW.

Paul is like, in the top 100 per BoxRec, don’t be a dork.

    He's talking about "followers".

    Not the rankings.

It’s going to be funny when Allen or Makhmudov fights Prenga and makes easy work of him.

Anyone who loses a wide UD to Giovanni Auriemma is not a serious HW.

Sorry but if you cannot beat him you aren't serious. End of story.

The media has definitely tried to present him as a serious HW off the back of him dropping a shot to bits AJ 3 times in 1 round.

Being a hard hitter and being a serious heavyweight contender all around are two entirely different things.

He is 6'5-ish, 260 and can bowl over a club fighter but his record does not suggest he is a hard hitter at any kind of level. How does a 1-2 Italian journeyman with no career KO's beat Prenga over 8 rounds if Prenga is a puncher? How does a faded Dawajko go 5 easily, then quit on an injury? How does a massively overweight age 40+ wannabe politician nobody from the Klitschko era take him to 6?
