Should Usyk’s reasoning to fight Wilder mean he should fight Ruiz?

After Usyk loses to Wilder, Oleksandr should fight Ruiz.

Makes sense.

 

Wilder was a champion for five years with ten "defenses".

Ruiz is the guy who won the lottery and pissed it away in his first defense by somehow managing to come in fatter than he already was.

 

His decision to face Wilder, rather than Kabayel is more puzzling.

 

Wilder is much less risk for a similar amount of money and some status. It passes risk-reward far better for a final fight.

 

Fight a big name which gets your name out there in America and will get you paid a truckload of money while also allowing you to claim all 3 scalps of the top champs of your era; or fight a no name middling German who no one cares about and who struggles with journeymen level fighters and who won't get you paid at all. Wow. What a tough choice!

 

Usyk isn't avoiding Kabayel because he got rocked by Smakici; he's avoiding him because at age 39, a prime unbeaten contender who handily beat Chisora, Sanchez and Zhang, and who is very good to the body, is too big a risk to Usyk's legacy.

 

Wilder was one of the "big 3".

In fact, he's the only one Usyk hasn't faced yet, so I understand why the appeal is there for Usyk.

Ruiz does not share that same distinction and immediately lost his belts back to AJ in his first defense.

 

More Parker than either, imo.

But yeah, I'd like to see him fight a couple of the three.

 

I'd rather see Usyk vs Ruiz than Wilder at this point I think

 

Andy Ruiz was not a big name in boxing, he only had that one good win (over Joshua) his entire career.

Deontay Wilder is much more high profile, a much bigger name than Ruiz. Although he fought mostly soft opposition to defend his title, he did have several years of successful title defenses. And he had some highlight-reel KOs during his career.

Wilder is by far the more meaningful opponent than Ruiz, who disgraced himself coming in out of shape and losing in his only attempted title defense.

 

Meheecan boxer Juan Lazcano used to use the nickname "The Hispanic Causing Panic." Lesser known is the Mohican boxing fighter named Julio Cesar Chavez Carl's Senior, who would became super famous but originally his nickname "The Hispanic Causer of Anxiety" was something of a dud and drew almost no attention at all. Now, what I'm trying to say-the thing that I'm getting at here-is that Ruiz has also caused a lot of panic or at the very least, anxiety, and largely for non-hispaniolic types of fighting men.

 

The delicious rhyme of panic with panic makes it work!

 

Ruiz is about to lose or get a gift decision against that tall Pole.

 

Usyk talked about a last dance, and I think he perceives Wilder and Ruiz differently. Ruiz pulled off a huge upset by beating Joshua and winning the belts, but a few months later AJ got his revenge, and Ruiz ended his high-level career there. Meanwhile, Wilder was WBC world champion for five years and, along with Usyk, AJ, and Fury, was the post-Klitschko star.
