Is greater than anyone's and he's been retired for 11 years. Boots Ennis is one of the best in boxing yet most people don't even know who he is. Same goes for Inoue. Sure in their own country they're known. But even still in America many wouldn't even know the name. They'd think he's a cartoon character with a name like Boots. Guys like him have padded records and are talked about like they're Money May. They're not even close and never will be. How many big fights has he had? Mayweather is taking a hit outside of the ring financially but he's still the best there ever was. Floyd, Ali and Tyson are the 3 most well known boxers of all time decades after retiring. People mention Sugar Ray 99 percent of Australians don't even know who he is. No one comes close to Mayweathers longevity. No one came close to generating the amount of revenue he did. Love him or hate him no one comes close to him in the history of boxing across the board. He gave many fighters a life changing pay day. All because of May day.

90% of Australians wouldn't know who FMJ was either. Ali will forever be the biggest name in boxing history due to greatness and social impact. Tyson second due to marketing and image. Floyd is relatively famous amongst boxing aficionados but barely famous anymore at all to the general public. Being a shallow, boastful, money obsessed ***** with zero memorable fights or particular highlights will do that.

Which of his fights will be talked about in 20-30 years? Pacquaio and McGregor will only be remembered as some of the top selling combat sports events, currently #1 and #2, but that could change in that time. The Pacquiao fight is the poster child of disappointing super fights.

He had what was billed as the fight of the century with Oscar. Then again with Pac. Then the all time biggest money revenue in McGregor. He flogged Gatti and Cotto. Destroyed Hatton. Took care of Judah. Beat Maidana with one eye. Destroyed Canelo. Mauled Corrales.

    He's the best ever.

90% of Australians are running from insane jerkface wildlife yowies, crocs, dropbears, roos, etc. They don't have time to pay attention to any sport. That's what I learned in school.

Great fighter but half his career was smoke and mirrors.

All 3 fights were massive let downs, the fans were disappointed every time. If these had been good fights, then Mayweather would be remembered a lot more fondly, and he would be more known around the world, but that´s not the case.

Even if Mayweather is the best ever, never to be topped, then the fact remains that he wont be the most known boxer of all time. His name will fade while Ali´s and Tyson´s remain - because the latter two had a much greater social and cultural impact, and all Floyd did was win in the ring and then flaunt his money afterwards.

What truly separates Floyd from Ali and Tyson is the in ring excitement.

What a silly post. You can talk about Mayweather‘s greatness without being ridiculous about it. I suggest trying that next time

That’s harsh on Lance to be honest.

If Lance was the Mayweather of cycling he’d have to let have a clause that made Jan Ullrich come in 10lbs overweight. Hmm you might have a point

Avoiding Pacquiao in his prime and instituting his own tests will be his legacy
