Plenty of boxers had very limited amateur careers and fought much better opposition earlier than Marciano did.

It’s rare for fighters to just jump right in. Not sure I get this knock against him at all. He was raw and shouldn’t have been fighting anyone of note till he was ready. I’ve seen people defend Williams for getting knocked out by Satterfield a long out of his prime fighter for it only being his like 32 fight. Marciano had no help his first ten fights then when shown promise he was managed and developed more importantly correctly. He had one of the best corners ever. I don’t think we know his name if fate hadn’t landed him w Goldman. Maybe the only man who would have taught him that style

Check out how many amateur fights the following had
    Wardley
    Ruiz
    Haye
    Whyte
    Itauma
And the comparative level of their opposition.
I didn' t start this thread,I'm just giving my 2 cents on it.

Yeah but guys like Itauma are literally going at the same pace as Marciano. They just fight less fights. But taking the same amount of years to develop. He’s been fighting 3 1/2 years already. Take that same rate and Mariciano had double the fights he had and had already started stepping up in competition. Just different ways of bringing men up. They def fought a lot more on average in the 50s and prob prefer to take less damage over a career now adays and develop in the gym. Not sure if that’s the case for all of them but I’d imagine it is.

Far from it ,Itauma fought top ten ranked Franklin in his 14 th fight and faces top 5 ranked Hrgovic in his 15th.Marciano didn't fight a top ten ranked opponent ,[Layne,] until his 36th fight.

I’m talking about years of development. In the same time frame of development Marciano was fighting ranked LaStarza and Layne. They both had 3 1/2 years till they met top ranked men. Itauma hasn’t met Hgrovic yet should be a fun bout.
Looked up Whyte and it’s the same thing. Years of development before they meet anyone.

And LaStarza was top ten when they met.

I' ll try and make this as clear as I can.
COMPARE HOW MANY FIGHTS MARCIANO HAD BEFORE FACING RANKED OPPOSITION
WITH HOW MANY ITAUMA,WARDLEY ,WHYTE HAD?

Jim Jeffries, Jack Johnson... Hell, Ali fought Miteff, Besmanoff and Banks for his 8th, 9th and 10th fights. Sonny Liston was just his 20th fight.

Think everyone falls short of Ali, what’s the difference if you’re coming along in your 30th fight or 15th? The argument is ridiculous.

Again you get proven to be wrong or your point is moot and you start typing in caps. If they took the same amount of years to develop and face ranked opposition what’s the difference? I already explained to you my point and it’s clear. I’m not getting into another screaming match.
To think someone should penalized in their career for having MORE fights in the same time frame is a take I wouldn’t have.

The argument is that Marciano was a protected fighter kept at the level of the NE circuit until well into his career. The argument rings true. His stay at the top, as pathetic as that was in the wake of the war, was very short, basically his last 14 fights, from Layne till Moore, even that sprinkled with a few bums.

When compared to most champs and contenders it’s no different. His career was short and he had to develop quickly. He had a lot of fights even if some were easy it’s fine for developing fighters. You people hold Marciano to standards no fighter could meet. Ali was fighting from the age of like 12 btw. By the time he turned pro that was Marciano’s whole career. He had time to develop. Marciano faced more number 1s than most champs ever. Doesn’t sound to protected.

For the record your fav fighterHolmes took a total of five years into his career before he met anyone of note. Would be two years longer than Marciano. Avoided his number 1s like the plague. You guys need new arguments

That's a strawman and a half. And Holmes is not my fave, not really even a top 5 fave heavy of mine, as great as he was.

And Larry lined up across from Earnie Shavers in his 27th fight. Marciano faced .500 fighter Eldridge Eastman.
