Weed can calm you down, which may affect your performance. But I agree, it's stupid to test for it. But Mike himself said he was cheating with fake ***** during those days, so he probably did worse things than just some leaves.

All I know is Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson while Michael Spinks lost to Mike Tyson. Make of that what you will.
Mike was always a midget fighting in the land of giants. His stay at the top was a tightrope walk requiring top level speed, balance, snap as well as stamina. Every time he stopped attacking he became an underwhelming physical presence where larger opponents, those who were not intimidated, saw their advantages. Even before prison, he was unravelling. The tightrope was swaying.... His commitment had eroded, his stamina was in decline. He was more and more a one-trick pony. Post prison he was a shadow of his former self, and a guy who no longer loved the sport. The fact he beat Bruno, Seldon (say what you will), Botha speaks volumes to his former abilities.
It is very reasonable to rate on career only, not head to head-although I would include the latter because it is part of Greatness-who would win on an even playing field (neutral rule set)-although that tends to disadvantage those who had lesser competition, earlier in history. Especially HWs due to increased size: Dempsey was at most the size of a rehydrated LHW. Even with a big stylistic advantage-& I can see none between these two-if Tyson was great as you acknowledge, Dempsey would have little chance against a man that is so much bigger & stronger than him. I do think Tyson has the stylistic advantage against Holmes & would beat him. But at least Holmes would be a modern HW (albeit skinny) in overall size.
And Mike was a top shelf finisher. And that is a necessary ingredient to get a stoppage over Larry Holmes---he can escape the other guys going for the stoppage. Plus another thing overlooked is Larry got hit late in the round. Not long to make it til the end of the round. Tysonn got him down early making Larry have to kill a lot of clock. That changes things. And the recent boxing climate. Holmes falling face first into the turnbuckle has that fight stopped right then and there.
The Ruddock fights were quite a shock to me at the time .A good pair of wins but the head movement and speed of feet had gone .just Power and toughness .still a very dangerous fighter but I knew against someone who wasn't just going to trade and wasnt completely terrified he would be in trouble
I agree that Tyson was already on the decline (Ruddock fights), but that doesn't belong in Tyson's second career (after prison). P.S. Already in 1989, Tyson was in decline compared to 1988. And that doesn't make sense for someone who is 22-23 years old.
It's a bit of a joke that people lack the very basic level of sophistication to view him for what he was then instead of comparing to what he was even before that. If he'd been any other fighter doing the same things, we'd at least call him a solid contender of the time. Yes, he was very depleted from when he was a dominant eighties fighter. That's irrelevant to him being pretty dangerous and tough with some important skills left in the time period being discussed. The idea that he was just trash by this point is absurd. I mean, even someone like Mathis Junior or Savarese weren't just trash. I'm not saying they were great names, but they weren't even themselves trash. Let's be a little reasonable with what words mean.
