Rare footage of Hearns training and sparring in 1986 for Mark Medal. Always a pleasure seeing Hearns. Poetry in motion.

Interesting Hitman is using Bruce Lee Gloves from Enter the Dragon plus good sparring from Darrell Knox and Kenny Snow not the Kronk Gym wars which Kronk infamous for.

I can’t praise Hearns enough by saying he was like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson rolled into one, a hybrid if you like.

Good comparison but to me Tommy always seemed more like a hybrid of Ali and Joe Louis while Ray Leonard was a mixture of Ali and Robinson.

Interesting comparison. I always thought Hearns was like Joe Louis mixed with Bob Foster. Sugar Ray Leonard was more similar to Ali with a bit of Kid Gavilan.

Another gem, nice find. Hearns did road work, calisthenics, bag work, and sparring. No jump rope and no heavy weights.

Nice! And sparring partner Darnell sure had his number. Wonder why Manny let Tommy carry his left at his waist like that.

I think I recall an article (maybe SI?) around the time he was training for the first Leonard fight; it said he didn't like jumping rope or the speed bag. He'd do it for the press, but otherwise no. If he didn't want to do them and they offered no benefit, why not? It doesn't seem to have made a difference!
