It won’t happen. Devin is too big for 140 now, and Shakur won’t want to go into a welterweight bout fully hydrated only just at the limit with a 170lb Haney, regardless of how superior he is skill for skill. He also wouldn’t want an asterisk next to a win if he mandated a rehydration limit. Shakur is ahead of Haney P4P, and the eye test confirms that he’s just better in general. I don’t really think this fight is necessary, and it wouldn’t have mainstream appeal. Mainstream fans who are aware of them as fighters would know it wouldn’t be an action-heavy fight, and therefore probably wouldn’t do the numbers to make it profitable.
Shakur Stevenson is better in almost every measurable area except the jab. If Devin Haney plays it smart, he wins a boring UD by outjabbing Stevenson. He’s more powerful at 147 as well, so he could also control things in the clinch against Stevenson.
Stevenson should win it but he won't look good, he never does when he's forced to chase. Off topic but despite Shakur scoring his biggest win recently, im off that train. Shakur is too defensive, Keyshawn Davis would do better against Haney, he is complete like Boots
Yeah Devin is a big dude for the divisions he fights in. He could make an earnest attempt at Middle, hes that big
Welterweight seems like something Shakur would do after 140 to leave no doubts or for more money and prestige since Welter is one of the original 8 divisions and is apart of the traditional big 3 divisions(Welter, Middle, Heavy) he's not gonna rush into it
Hoping this fight happens at some point while they're both young and in their primes. I can actually see Shakur trying to make 147 for it to happen down the road. Shakur is the more talented skilled fighter but Haney has the size and reach along with his spoiler tactics that could potentially force Shakur to work harder. It's a match up that's intriguing on paper since they're both skilled boxers but could very well be dull to watch. Their old sparring video was cool to see though so maybe stylistically they might match well enough to make it interesting.
This would be brilliant match-up if it happens, I'm not saying it would be a great watch but it would be a great match-up and name on the winner's record. I think it will be a close and dull fight but Stevenson edges it for me on points.
shakur comfortably. he can land the left hook any time he wants. he might not have ryans speed, but he has better timing. it would be a harder task if devins style and temperament leaned towards using his size and physicality more. he's just not a bully. devin has good legs, shakur has great legs. i dont see devin winning 4 rds.
I like Shakur as a boxer far more than Haney, but all this "brothers'" matchmaking seems to involve sending his "brothers" (who he won't fight) into fights that are too dangerous. Then, if they happen to lose like Ford or duck like Davis, don't expect Shakur to fight them. No, that would be silly. How do you make Billy Haney seem charismatic and likable in comparison? I believe that to be Shakur and Davis' biggest achievement in the sport of boxing.
