i agree with your take on the situation and overall grasp of reality.
yes it affects his standing, how much will depend on how the rest of his and ricos careers pan out. everyone saw what fury was being called before reality came a knockin. it wouldn't affect usyk to the same degree, as his skills are legit, but that was not a p4p performance.
what surprised me the most was usyks inability to adapt. rico wasnt in there reinventing the wheel, he was making numerous technical mistakes that were obviously exploitable, and got away with it. elite fighters dont let you get away with it. i have to assume usyks head was not in the fight. which can happen to anybody. especially under the pre fight perceptions of the fight.
we will see how each one does in their next fight. that will tell us more on where each one stands in the big picture.

But at the time of the fight against Rico, he was the undisputed heavyweight leader, whereas Tyson wasn't even ranked. Rico himself is only four years younger than Usyk and has fought more ring wars than him.

 

Uysk has had 350 amateur fights. And even most of Rico's professional matches are 3-5 rounds. Rico is not even in the ballpark of wear and tear. Usyk has literally had a comparable numbers of fights as Rico has had rounds.

And this is the problem--the false narratives that are being perpetuated.

what I think is that Usyk underestimated Rico because he is a kickboxer. What I know is that Usyk is way past his prime , but he managed to drop and stop rico. I also know that Usyk never lost to a bunch of bums like mike tyson or featherfisted journeyman like Young.

James Douglas wasn’t in any way a bum.

 

All of Usyk's top work at heavyweight occurred over a 4 year period, that's not really a big enough span of time to count as an era

If it did than Tyson could claim to be the best of his era based on a similar period of dominance

If Itauma turns out to be better than Usyk people may start to question if Usyk could beat him in 2024/25

Regardless, he beat the #2, #3, and #4 amongst all fighters from 2015-2026. Remarkable.

 

It all gets you at once. Happens the same for all of them. Its almost a cliche to "get old" in one fight.
