so when I watched it, I thought Floyd won. Many of those shots were blocked and Floyd with his speed, superior movement, outscored him.. The decision was good

Honestly, Duran is too primitive, his style too outdated and wouldnt be able to cope against a fighter this fast and this sophisticated. Duran is way out of his league.

Didnt he also lose to Benitez? what a loser!

I just double checked this....He's 50-0 and you aren't listed as one of the judges.

That would put you in a minority position. Most who watched at ringside thought JLC won close but clear.

I'll draw your attention to his defeat of SRL ( better than Floyd), two weight classes north of his best weight.
I'll draw your attention to his destruction of Davey Moore three weight classes north of his best weight.
I'll draw your attention to his defeat of Iran Barkley four weight classes north of his best weight.

    Yeah, what a loser !

From the tone of your response, and your earlier comment...."he (Duran) was a brawler with some skill".... it appears there are two possibilities here.

    1) You know very little about the sport and should not be taken too seriously.

    or

    2) You have a 'Duran problem' and are trolling. so again, not be taken too seriously..

If you say so, mr. Neck.
It appears your boxrec research skills exceed your fight-scoring skills.

On Boxrec, Holy got a draw against Lennox and Bradley got a win over Pac.

    Keep on posting, lad.

    Your contributions are insightful !

I think anyone repeating JLC won the first Mayweather fight either didn't watch it and are repeating the myth or doesn't know how to score boxing or just has incredible biased specs. As for the fans at that fight they were booing during the fight because they got bored of Floyd's hit and not getting hit style. But Floyd was actually much more aggressive at this weight than his higher weights. Because of the shoulder injury he couldn't really use the jab.

JLC didn't come close to winning, hard to give him one of the first 5 rounds. JLC won the last 2 rounds but boxing is scored on a round by round basis. Most people don't seem to get that. I scored it 8-4, the nearest has to be 7-5. People thinking Castillo won got feelings off the last 2 rounds or scored punches that didn't land.

I remember people BSing that DLH beat Floyd too, but enough people have seen it to it's not true. Maidana has the biggest argument for beating Floyd in their first fight.

I understand Duran is the more heroic masculine figure when it comes to himself and Mayweather. But he's not close in terms of defense, speed or arm length. He's not close to Mayweather's stamina and dedication either.

Really in terms of style, look at Duran's fights against boxers who boxed and moved and didn't look to exchange. Benitez, Laing and Leonard all beat him. Even Viruet and Mamby gave him lots of problems at lightweight, who are the nearest stylistically.

I would pick a motivated Duran to win from 135 - 147 but this notion that there is no way Mayweather would have got into the ring with Duran is ludicrous. If the money was right, Mayweather would be there. Chico Corralles was looked at as an extremely dangerous opponent and Mayweather fought him and he rematched his toughest opponent JLC at lightweight. I know people want to hate on Mayweather but he was no “ducker”.

I will take it from this post that you're neither a novice to the sport nor a troll.

You simply hold positions very different from mine, both on scoring and achievements.

We will have to agree then to disagree on both Duran's standing in the pantheon of boxing and what went down at the MGM Grand on April 20 of '02.

I'm positive that is an alternate timeline where Mayweather would have the balls to get in the ring with people like Ray Leonard, Hagler or Hearns.
In that very specific timeline, Duran gets whooped even worse than Superman against Doomsday.

    No Neck is a troll.

Mark Dunham is either a troll or a simpleton.

    Either way, just ignore him.

    He’s not worth your time.

Benitez and Leonard were more aggressive and more offensive at the higher weights.

It’s also easy to sit there and try and make comparisons about their arm length and speed etc.

The reality is, Duran proved that he could beat a prime Leonard when fully motivated.

He went into the ring with some of the greatest fighters we’ve ever seen, across 3 divisions.

Fighters who were ATG’s, and in the prime of their life.

Floyd on the other hand, had no similar experience.

Floyd never saw a prime ATG in his life.

You have also completely dismissed the psychological factor.

    There’s nothing ludicrous about it.

It’s perfectly logical based upon numerous actions that he made throughout his career.

He left millions of dollars on the table when he wouldn’t entertain a rematch with Oscar.

He had to go to the WWE to get a cheque as big, which was far safer.

His fight with Manny was the biggest grossing fight in history. And he nearly left that on the table. If Manny hadn’t have slowed down and been knocked out, we’d never have seen that fight.

There’s nothing to suggest that he’d have put his zero up against a prime Roberto Duran.

That's fine mate, I am a Duran fan also and so was Mayweather to a massive degree for what it's worth. He was a big fan of Holmes and Arguello off the top of my head

    Have a top night anyway

Yea, yea, yea, we get your belief is Floyd beat everyone over 20 years from 130-154 and never beat anyone

Mayweather was way more aggressive at 130-140 than either Leonard was in the second fight - because Leonard ran and Floyd was way way more aggressive than that in all fights from 130-147 until his first retirment. Or Benitez was in his whole career. Benitez never had close to Floyds offense ever, absolutely backward to claim Benitez offense was anywhere close.

Isn't it about time you started hyping how great Kirkland Laing was. I'm a fan of his and given you're a cheerleader for anyone before 1990 I thought you'd shout him out

Duran beat a Prime Leonard when he insulted Leonard's wife and Leonard brawled with him foolishly. In the second and third fights he couldn't compete with the speed and movement and it's why he quit

This is a terrible post by you.

I’ve always said that Floyd was a great fighter.

But we can’t pretend that he had the big fight experience that Duran had, when he didn’t.

It doesn’t matter what you think. It’s a stone cold fact, that Floyd never saw any fighter the calibre of a prime Duran.

    That matters here very much.

I said that Floyd wasn’t as aggressive or as offensive, up at the higher weights. As in -WW and JMW, where Duran fought Benitez and Leonard.

Yes, Leonard employed different tactics in the other fights, obviously due to his loss in their first fight.

I’m not a cheer leader for guys prior to 1990.

I love guys of all eras.
