Manny isn't overrated he's positively godly. A force of nature I'll be real. I've always wanted to fight Manny. To test myself against him It's that gigantic noggin of his it's so goddamn enormous I know there's no way I missing it with me bombs and anything I can land me bombs on is getting broken so I know I can sleep him. To be fair, I'm a lot bigger than him and couldn't make 147 or 154 if I had both legs amputated
Why are you posting nonsense Wins over Oskee, Cotto, Bradley, Margarito, JMM, Barrera, Morales, Thurman, Hatton, Diaz, Clottey, Lehdwaba, Julio At least 5 Hall of famers to his name (by stoppage) and titles in multiple weight classes. Surefire ATG and the best of his era IMO.
Pacquiao had way too many ‘catchweight’ fights that cheapened the sport. So, that accomplishment comes with an asterisk because he was unwilling to fight at the divisional limit.
I’m aware of this - but he moved up such an amount that it almost doesn’t even matter. Think of the times athletes have moved up, lost to a lesser fighter, and we say “he’s just too small for the weight.” Here that didn’t happen - at least for a long time, and we’re talking about someone moving up literally 50% of their starting body weight…
He moved up 50 percent of his body weight through steroids. Ariza? Lol. Also why did he decline to fight Floyd? Because he didn't want Olympic style testing. Why? Look at his body when he first started. Pacquaio was a drug cheat.
Probably true - still something no one else has come close to doing, and there’s been a lot of drug users.
Because Pacquiao tried/attempted to weight drain his opponents. There are 18 weight classes the idea that Pacquiao was unable to pick one and fight at the actual divisional limit in his prime is laughable. What weight he started at is irrelevant. Even Glass Jaw Roy Jones who was one of the most reluctant fighters and handpickers of the 90’s and 2000’s didn’t impose ‘catchweight’ fights in his prime when moving up.
When Pac moves up “the idea that he couldn’t pick a weight to fight at is laughable” when others move up they’re daring to be great? You’re just being a hater, and really that’s what most of your posts are that I recall seeing, regardless of who they’re about… You’re entitled to your opinion, just don’t expect to convince others. Like I have been saying, you guys try to downplay his accomplishments by bringing this stuff up - my question is simple - how come others don’t do it? You’ll bring up PEDs, cherry-picking, or catch-weights, and the problem is - other fighters do all of those things… they just don’t achieve what Pacquiao did.
So did other ATGs as well like Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, George Foreman, Roberto Duran, Terry Norris, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Wlad Klitschko, Roy Jones Jr, Erik Morales. Losses and getting knocked out happens even to absolutely great fighters. Pac is no exception. Yet he constantly bounces back and that's what makes him a legendary fighter.
Let's breakdown the "too many catchweight" myths: Oscar de la Hoya handpicked Manny Pacquiao who was just coming off from winning a 135 title. ODLH believed he had the advantage with his size and saw Pac as an easy fight for a comeback . The catchweight was imposed because Pac had never fought around that weight and was a non-title bout. You cannot blame Pac for this "catchweight" fight. 2009 Pacquiao was just coming off from winning a 140 title from Ricky Hatton and decides to fight Miguel Cotto for his 147 title that same year. This was his first official debut at 147 for a title and has Cotto agrees to fight at 145 lbs. I don't think 2 pounds would have made much of a difference nor would the results have changed. The Antonio Margarito fight is the one that I would say takes away some of the shine and I was never that fond of this match up. Margarito, despite having a significant size advantage, was not really the best opponent other than being a "name" and was coming off from losing to Mosley 2 fights prior. This was a way for Pac to achieve the 8 weight class division record but in reality this was just a cheap way of accomplishing another "record breaking" moment. And then you have Juan Manuel Marquez 3 which was also fought at a catchweight. JMM kept chasing Pac because of how close the 2nd fight was and wanted to fight for his title. His only other previous fight around that weight was against Mayweather which was also fought at a catchweight as well in a non-title bout. People keep mentioning "catchweights" as an attempt to denigrate Pacquiao without even bringing up the context behind those fights. You know who else fought at catchweights on more than one occasion? Floyd Mayweather when he fought Juan Manuel Marquez (in a fight that he deliberately went over the weight limit) and Canelo Alvarez. Bernard Hopkins when he fought ODLH, Winky Wright, and Kelly Pavlik. Canelo himself had imposed catchweight fights many times when he fought Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, Amir Khan, Liam Smith. Sugar Ray Leonard also fought 3 notable fights at a catchweight when he fought Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, and Donny LaLonde. The fight with Donny LaLonde was the most egregious example because that was a fight fought for LaLonde's 175 title yet Leonard forced LaLonde to drain himself to fight at 168 limit. Let's cut the BS about the idea that Pac had "cheapened" the sport with the catchweights when other fighters have also done it already.
its ok to criticize that which you believe deserves criticism, but you have to also render the flowers when they are deserved. its just part of being a stand up guy. otherwise, that criticism is just hate. what pac accomplished might never be duplicated again. and its not from lack of trying.
There's some confusion here. Weight classes don't require fighting at the division limit. WW is 140-147 not just 147. A catchweight is a fight where two fighters don't fall in the same weight category. Manny did this once. Against Margarito. Fighters fight at the limit because they are usually migrating south from their natural weight instead of north. For them making the weight limit is enough of a strain as it is. There's no reason to cut even a pound further. Most fighters doing something doesn't mean that's the rules. If a WW wants to fight at 141 instead of 147 that's not cheating or unethical in any way.
