Lol. They aren't. Rankings are a projection. Results are what matter.

I am not saying that it is not part of it and he couldn't do better, but obviously at 39, there is a strong element of getting old. That is a very old fighter, especially for a heavyweight that isn't that big.

There was a plethora of things that contributed, and it is worth noting again that I was one of the first to say that I was one of the very few who told everyone it was going to be a tough fight. But he is feeling his age now, and not hiding it.

Douglas I agree because he had some very real natural physical advantages over Tyson. Spinks...well...he put on 14 pounds and still walked in under 200. The natural size gradient went the opposite way.

It's not about professional career. Taking damage is taking damage. The amateur/pro thing is a false dichotomy.

He's had about as many fights as Rico has had rounds- he's taken more shots.

He won a title in the Three Kings/Usyk era and had some big fights, so I'll leave it at that.

Being in hard fights obviously has a major significance in how a fighter ages ?

Rico has been in wars where he's been bloodied bruised and floored multiple times that would obviously have an effect on him in his late 30s.

You can't use the aging excuse for 1 fighter when the other fighter in question is of a similar age. And has had a very tough professional career with alot wear and tear also.

No one was saying this after the 2nd Dubois fight though.

Yes obviously people will notice that Usyk has slowed down obviously father time is undefeated.

But there was no evidence prior to the Rico fight that Usyk would look so poor in that fight.

I don't think Usyk is washed up far from it he simply underestimated his opponent and came in too heavy and was sluggish.

And he was also probably a bit surprised by Rico's unorthodox boxing style.

Look at Fury for example he looked bad vs Ngannou and everyone thought he was finished.

But then Fury gets himself in shape and puts on a very good performance against Usyk.

I feel like if they ever had a rematch and Usyk loses about 8-10 pounds he would do a number on Rico much more convincingly.

Let's just agree to disagree that sometimes looking at things with hindsight that people can be wrong at that time.

Obviously Spinks with hindsight was a credible Heavyweight and much more of a threat than people realised.

Whether or not Holmes thought the same probably not but again he underestimated Spinks and it comeback to bite him in the you know what.

Usyk also underestimated Rico but thankfully for him he found the stoppage to rescue the situation.

This is among the worst opinions I have ever read. The official rankings which decide title shots are obviously more important than the circle jerk thread on a forum. Absolute, utter delusion to even suggest otherwise. I'm sure in 100 years when they look at the ranked fighters Usyk beat, they'll double check this forums opinion on the matter

Now, seeing as though you just conveniently ignored the rest of post. Want to try and answer a question?

    Goodness lol, 15 pages already.

In any case, not really. While the scorecards and refereeing were a disgrace, one cannot ignore the context surrounding the fight. Usyk showed up at 233.5 lbs (12.5 lbs heavier than when he first faced AJ) and visibly soft. Be it due to ageing, being occupied by training AJ, distracted by the war in his home country (most likely the first, with the latter two being additional factors), he was clearly not in peak condition. Great as Usyk is, nobody beats Father Time.

12 months prior to the Vitali fight Lewis was coming off one of his best wins (a KO of Mike Tyson) but apparently Lewis who looked much closer to his prime self vs Vitali than Usyk did vs Rico aged overnight and was shot and Vitali is one of Lewis' best wins too. Usyk is never granted such grace, no way he could've possibly aged overnight at 39 y/o. Not a chance in hell even though he's been on the decline for a long time and has clearly slowed down a lot just because he looked good vs Dubois 10 months earlier

But Mike was shot by then, right?

But would that version of Mike have knocked out Dubois too? Hmm.. he was coming off 4 stoppage wins and 2 NCs which were only NCs because he tested positive for pot and because he landed a punch slightly after the ref called break. Both those NCs were really either early stoppage wins or highly likely would of been

One being a TKO over a 36-4 Golota who let's not forget 2 of those losses were DQ losses in fights he beat the crap out of Bowe and let's not also forget Lewis should have at least 1 DQ loss on his record too and so too should Bowe.

In fact, Bowe should have as many DQ losses as Golota if not more but strangely both he and Lewis don't have any

And Golota subsequently went onto be robbed vs in world title fights vs the reigning champs Byrd and Ruiz 3-4 years after fighting Mike so a 2 round stoppage of that stronger era Golota should be considered a good win right? Unless you believe Mike wouldn't have able to do that to Golota if he wasn't high

And Mike also one punch HL reel KO'd a 39-1 Botha during that run who was robbed blind vs a prime Briggs in his very next fight, a Briggs who had lost to Lewis the previous year including hurting Lewis and arguably knocking him down with only the ropes keeping him from going down.

And those fights were in that ''stronger era''

But if Mike was shot when he fought Lewis it begs the question why does Lewis receive so much credit for beating washed up fighters and in complete contrast to Usyk very often being the way, much or bigger man and never much smaller and again in complete contrast to Usyk why did he have to be so dirty even vs leprechaun bums and hold like crazy, stiff-arm, constantly push off and push down on the back of Mike's neck all night to tire out a much smaller shot fighter who he held an obscene 13'' reach advantage over, a huge height advantage and big weight advantage over? I've never seen Usyk foul anyone whether they be champ or journeyman. Lewis paused before sucker punching downed tomato cans he was much bigger than with three power bombs and held their head in place to blind them to the bombs and line them up

Lewis' size and reach advantage alone made it an almost unfair fight for a fighter like Mike because it was extremely difficult for him to close the distance and Lewis would immediately wrap his arms around him like a lonely octopus when Mike managed to do so and he continued to do so even after numerous hard warnings from the ref.

Refresh your memory. Scandalous amount of holding and at one point in round 1 he even grabs a hold of Mike uses his size and strength to push him into the ropes so Mike is in no position to defend himself and he cracks him with cheap shots. Vs a ''shot'' fighter he dwarfed

    This content is protected

Maybe Lewis employed those tactics because Mike was a very dirty fighter and a bully? But Lewis was always a very dirty fighter and a bully himself and he had no qualms about bullying and being extremely dirty vs hopelessly outgunned and overmatched tomato can journeymen he dwarfed who stood zero chance of winning a round vs him

In fact, Lewis openly admitted excessive holding vs fighters he held huge physical advantages over was his game plan to neutralize them when they managed to close the distance

'Lennox Lewis will be ordered to abandon the tactic of hugging and holding he has been practising in preparation for his world heavyweight championship fight against David Tua here.

Referee Joe Cortez, one of America's most experienced boxing officials, today warned that he will deduct points from Lewis's score if the 35-year-old Londoner persists in holding his Samoan challenger.

Cortez knows that the stocky Tua must come barrelling in and use his acknowledged power to fight inside at close quarters if he is to negate the massive advantages Lewis has in height and reach - seven inches and 15 inches respectively.

He is also aware of the counter-measures Lewis has planned if 27-year-old Tua breaches his defences.

Only last week, Lewis revealed to Standard Sport: "If Tua does get inside, I'll just drop everything, hold him and wait until the referee comes and breaks us up. Then we'll start again. It will be a game of cat and mouse."

But free pass city for Lewis

Then if you are so much smarter than the circle jerk because you are smart enough to read the ratings rather than look at the results of the fights, then why not leave the circle jerk? You are so much above the others on this forum who voted.

Obvious to everyone else, the RESULTS are what matters. And according to the people, the results are:

    Usyk
    Fury
    Joshua
    Dubois

The mention of Lewis aging overnight and Usyk not aging overnight and suggesting theres some bias going on that's not what I was saying.

I've never stated Lewis suddenly aged overnight vs Vitali but there is some differences.

    1. Vitali is one of the toughest H2H Heavyweights of all time who won 15 world title fights that's not comparable to struggling against a kickboxer.

    2. Lewis's struggle vs Vitali is due to Vitali being a major problem because of how hard he is to beat and the fact Lewis came in at a career high weight.

    3. So Lewis looking sluggish coming in at a career high weight is no different to Usyk except Lewis was fighting a much better opponent.

So no I don't think Usyk suddenly aged overnight he simply came in too heavy at a career high weight and underestimated his opponent.

Likewise I don't think Lewis aged overnight vs Vitali he was just fighting a very good opponent and it didn't help he was at a career high weight and was sluggish.

Lewis also doesn't receive alot of credit for beating Tyson. It's widely accepted that Tyson was way past his best at that point.

But Lewis does overall have a very good resume one of the better resumes of any Heavyweight in history.

Rico is an elite combat sport athelete who had been training with world level boxers for 10 years and presented a really awkward style/game plan that usyk had to figure out on the night and he did just that.

I also add something that I am on record as saying BEFORE the fight. Kickboxers often have limited success in boxing because of the awkwardness. It is like test runs where 68 mile and hour softballers strike out major league baseball players. Yes, if they continued to play against each other, the major league hitter would adapt and crush the softballer, but the softballer is capable of limited success.

Same for guys like Troy Dorsey and James Warring. No, they are not ATG fighters because of glaring technical deficiencies--but they were good. And a lot of good fighters just flat-out had trouble handling the different things they brought to the table. You can have all the technical skill in the world, and you are still going to have to figure out how tp cope with Dorsey throwing a thousand pitty-pat punches in a fight,

I told everyone it was going to be a great fight, and why.
