What would Calzaghe be rated if the refs actually called his slaps and cuffs?

Joe Calzaghe fought in boxing's second division his whole career & didn't face the best of his contemporaries even then. Not all his fault b/c the Germans at the time were cats who didn't want to face him.

Super Middleweight was a division top fighters passed through on the way to somewhere else. Like Cruiserweight, it was a division created to enable Europeans to win world championships b/c they couldn't beat Americans in traditional weight classes. The WBO belt Calzaghe held at the time wasn't highly regarded.

Calzaghe was linear and Ring champion at 175.

He was also Ring, unified and linear champion at 168. He defeated Jeff Lacy for the IBF title at 168, and Mikkel Kessler for the WBC and WBA titles.

Calzaghe fought outside his home country of Wales many times: Scotland, Germany, England, Denmark, and the USA (Las Vegas and New York).

How often did Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins and Andre Ward fight contenders outside the USA?

He didn't beat a reigning world champ at 175 lbs so I'm not sure how that's possible. Most of the people who post about him on here do so retrospectively. He just wasn't a major player in the sport at the time. Except maybe in the UK which was a boxing backwater in those days.

He was a second division guy. He fought against old guys in the US who no longer held world titles. He had one fight in Denmark against someone I've never heard of. He went to Germany & fought someone who wasn't a reigning world champ there at a time when plenty were. As for fighting in Scotland & England when he was from Wales - big whoopie.
