These fighters you mention would run through today’s division like a panther vs a 400lb obese geriatric man.

Size can be “a” factor in its own fairly judged measure and that measure is also subject to how well a fighter does or does not utilise his size.

Some may say that they don’t only consider size but, even so, their emphasis on size can still be overblown - which is equal and opposite to those who perhaps ignore size too much, without factoring size in its own fair measure.

Perhaps not in as many cases but in some,
a fighter can possibly turn his smaller size to his advantage.

Size differentials hit different given and beyond certain thresholds.

For example, given the same 40 lbs difference, I would say a 135 lbs LW vs a 175 lbs LHW is far more up against it than say a 210 lbs HW vs 250 lbs HW.

Part of the reasoning for same (though without application of an exact, hard and fast weight metric), is that there seems to be a weight threshold at which a HW can carry sufficient power to gain respect, hurt or even KO/stop any of his much larger opponent.

I say no exact metric but let’s say perhaps it might start at 200 lbs and above, allowing for the possibility of fighters like Joe Louis whose power translated well beyond their body weights.

Of course getting those punches home against a dimensionally much larger opponent can be a different problem in itself.

However, ever increasing size can see its own seeming, terminal net advantage point - and as fighters approach that point, their sheer size is more and more offset by them becoming ever slower, ever more stamina challenged alongside or actually resulting in ever decreasing P4P skills.

Again, in respect of weight thresholds, the aforementioned degradations appear to become more prevalent and notable once fighters are nearing, reaching or going beyond thresholds reserved for so called SHWs.

Of course, SHWs are even more prone to leaning on, mauling, their smaller opponents - which serves not just to tire out their opponents but also allows the SHW more periodic breaks from doing any actual fighting.

Those type of tactics reside more in the realm of wrestling with greater size being sheerly applied rather than translated in terms of more pure boxing executions.

Willard, Simon, B. Baer and Carnera would be belt holders.
