Once again, you’ve failed to read the thread title properly.

Amateur is irrelevant since it's completely different to pro level and since RJJ as an amateur was nowhere near the version he was at 175.

McClellan is a good shout. He had good speed himself, so if he manages to land big, RJJ is in trouble.

To be clear we're talking about middleweights who could beat him at 175? Are the middleweights also at 175 or are they coming at 160?

It's not totally irrelevant RJJ sometimes had issues vs Southpaws.

He got dropped and noticeably hurt by Lou Del Valle.

    Eric Harding gave him issues.

Antonio Tarver of course stopped him and i don't think RJJ was totally shot either in their 2nd fight he just got caught with a perfect shot.

Again i'm not saying these fighters necessarily beat him but they would be challenging opponents.

You can pick whatever version you want.

How many times have we discussed this?

Joe had the opportunity in real time, during his actual career, to go and pursue Roy.

    He had the chance.

But he wouldn’t go to America.

    He wouldn’t go to LHW.

He said that he feared flying.

He gave an interview saying that he wasn’t chasing Roy.

He then finally fought him after saying that he was shot.

Then since retirement, on two separate occasions, he’s said that he doesn’t know if he could have beaten him.

    You’re a smart guy.

    Work it out.

He wouldn’t pursue him in his prime, because he didn’t have full confidence that he could have beaten him.

His comments and actions are absolute proof of that.

    I was there.

    I lived through the era.

For years, Joe liked to flirt with the idea.

But he never followed it through.

You cannot pick a guy to have beaten Roy, who didn’t believe that he could have beaten him.

Look at Ricky Hatton with Floyd, when Floyd was the P4P king like Roy was back then.
He moved up to Floyd’s weight class, went to America, and raised his profile over there by fighting named fighters. He chased down the fight and goaded Floyd into it.

This sums both fighters up perfectly:

Ricky didn’t have the ability to match his ambition.

Whereas Joe didn’t have the ambition to match his ability.

Jones was weighing low 180's when he fought at 175. He was said to be 174 against Toney, contested at 168. There's a decent chance he is indeed a real light heavyweight.

Weighing the same in the ring poundage, i think Charles would be favored. Jones was at his best at 168, perhaps he weighed around 175 or not much more at that time. There's lots of claims but best for best they could fight at close to 175 pound in the ring weight.

Wow that's a lot of words to try convince yourself that a guy that absolutely beat the tar out of another guy, could in fact not do so.

I don't have to try and convince myself of anything.

I have given you verifiable facts.

How he gets a pass for his actions, beggars belief.

Not only do you completely turn a blind eye to them, you somehow even celebrate the win.

    Bizarre.

I can see the footage. Both guys are slower than in their primes but it's also clear how their styles mesh up and it isn't good for RJJ. When he's facing a guy as fast as he is, he is out at sea, floundering. More: zaggers did it without PEDs. Give Calzaghe whatever horse steroids Jones was on and they'd be writing epic songs about him.

    You can see the footage??

    SMH

Of a guy stood static, with a high guard, not firing back??

    At almost 40?

It would be like looking at footage of Mike Tyson fighting Danny Williams.

Now what can’t you grasp, about the fact that Joe wouldn’t fight him when he was great, and that he doubts that he could have beaten him?

Why are you concentrating on the footage of their fight, and not on the fact that Joe only had the confidence to do that, after literally saying that he was shot??

How does that not matter to you?

    The act of a scavenger.

And if you possessed knowledge of each guy, you’d know that Roy had faster hands, and much faster feet and reflexes.

Joe was also very easy to hit, whilst Roy was very elusive.

Regarding PEDS, no amount of PEDS would have changed Joe’s psychological make up.

Meanwhile the facts are that Jones found Calzaghe difficult to hit and Calzaghe found Jones easy to hit. Maybe Jones needed more PEDs?

So you're asking which middleweights beat Jones at 175? Do any of them get to take steroids too?

    Those facts are completely irrelevant.

A prime 90’s Roy Jones, doesn’t even resemble the one who fought Joe.

    Pointless taking it any further.
