Oliver firth an absolute gem from England/NZ. Massive step up but first one that will make people see how good he is. This will be a great fight
shame Willis Meehan is not boxing anymore. he's disappeared off the face of the Earth. we'd have a handful of good heavies to make things more interesting.
Some conjecture out there over who will be Tim's next opponent, Erislandy Lara or Jermell Charlo. My vote goes to Charlo. Much more exciting fight. Sure he's been out for a long while, but he was nowhere near as far gone as Spence appeared the last time he fought. He's a big strong guy for the weight & will be tough to beat. Lara might as well but for different reasons. When you get the chance to face a Big Doodle in the ring, you take it. Kostya never got to face any of the Big Doodles from his era - Oscar, Sugar Shane or PBF (as he then was). The three Big Doodles from Tim's era are Spence, Jermell Charlo & Crawford. He's knocked off one of them & is now a chance to face another. I reckon go for it & if he wins, go after belts next year. Make sure the fight's out here though. Charlo will sell big in Australia. More so than Lara.
I'd rather see charlo fight but I think he should go for the title. Lose to charlo, the Lara fight is off. Get the title, then go for charlo.
There are some really fun fighters in the region right now. Huni, Parker, Teremoana, Ivic, Ahio, Leutele, Mailata, Mataika, Talivaa, Leapai Jnr and Isaac Kali Meehan all bring something different, and a lot of them are willing to fight each other. Huni and Parker are obviously chasing title contention, but with guys like Messam, Vatuvei, Vousiutu, Grach, Big Nas, Tumui, Sila and Seko in the mix, there is no shortage of fights that could be made. What is missing is a consistent WBSS-style tournament, ideally once or twice a year. It would give these fighters regular meaningful fights, allow the best to separate themselves from the pack, and prepare them for bigger opportunities and contention on the world stage.
yeah there's a few capable heavies. none of them seem to have the X factor that Willis Meehan had imo. he had all the tools i think to go all the way. does he even train anymore? i know he's had law issues but there seems to be no word about him anywhere for some time
Charlo said he's fighting Tszyu next? I think Charlo wins. But Tszyu will be extra motivated for this fight. He may just have one more master class in him.
