The sports history is filled with big amateur prospects whose pro career was derailed by journeyman and even club level fighters.

I think many “fans” are unaware of this, and don’t consider how many intangibles there are in a combat sport that can make a fighter lose.

Going through nearly 20 training camps and coming out winning every time is extremely hard to do regardless of opposition. Winning despite having an off night is even more challenging. Holmes and Wlad should both get more credit just for the consistency and professionalism of coming into that many defenses in a row prepared and in shape.

 

Nothing extravagand about saying an ATG is an ATG, lol.

I don’t see why it’s surprising, dr steelhammer is a certified ATG dominating the division until he met a patient he couldn’t come up with a diagnosis for in the half crazed Fury. He was somewhat predictable and boring once he found the style that worked best for him but that’s not his fault if he’s superior to all comers with a tried and tested approach, he usually took them out with the big bazooka anyway once he’d exhausted them. It’s a shame he never sat on AJ’s team post retirement as I saw a lot of similar attributes in him, AJ just overthinks everything and gets caught between styles and then tries to go down fighting fire with fire once he senses he’s in danger. Itauma is practically a sparring legend despite his youth going by all accounts he’s given plenty of good fighters trouble but sparring is sparring either way for both of them, we’ll see tonight what the truth is between them.

Imo, this made him an ideal candidate for Manny Steward to further the strategy LL used to KO Tyson. The whole thing was to use a size advantage to smother a rush not just once, but repeatedly and ultimately to exaust the smaller fighter. If that is properly executed then it becomes a matter of arithmetic.
