People are such drama queens. Dumb ones at that.

If he's mentored and guided properly, this loss (exact same way that happened to the great Wladimir Klitschko at a very similar age) will be a far better learning experience than crushing a bunch of cans.

 

On that night, Itauma would have knocked out 90% of the division; believe me, he will bounce back—he is a huge asset to the division and to boxing.

 

In one sense...

The biggest money is to be made with the zero intact and the hype at max.

Losing to a gatekeeper because you can't stop him makes the road longer and more difficult - he's not taken one loss when already highly proven, he's taken a loss when he's not quite in sight of the peak of the mountain yet...

With careful management he could chew through a bunch of journeymen and even some of the less durable contenders - but the moment you put iron in front of him and demand that he justify himself on cards he's going to struggle, if he can even get there.

Which suggests a future as a dominant champion might be completely off the table, or a huge amount of work away... But the Wilder path of blasting out guys that aren't that good and letting the hype build is gone, the illusions been shattered too early.

I guess we'll see whether he wants it - I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Honestly Bubbles your the only one that thinks Hrgovic is a gate keeper

 

Fine.

Most have extremely low standards for what constitutes a contender... Putting guys who haven't proved remotely enough to get anywhere near that bar up there, guys like Sanchez, Ajagba, Huni, etc, is just a joke.

Hrgovic is solid, but he's also significantly limited - his path to victory against anyone legit without significant failings is zero.

 

Hes a 21 year old British HW with tons of ability, at a time where the two main big name UK HWs are close to retiring.

He will be given another big fight within 18 months.

 

A lot of mention about his gas tank being his flaw and needing this experience. I think he has another issue, he doesn't realise his opponents can learn during fights and adapt, even big lumps like Hrgovic. His speed, counters and attacks to the head and body were dazzling in the first few rounds, but then Hrgovic had acclimatised to the types of punches coming at him to some degree and was able to absorb, ride and avoid the shots better. When you saw Moses swinging air, he never took a step back and realised his opponent is reading this, he just thought letting his hands go will get the job done neglecting accuracy and placement. Strange considering early in the fight he was punching with great accuracy and timing, he just didn't realise he was getting over greedy and sloppy at the same time.

He'll be back, Frank's got a lot of heavyweights on the books he can feed to Itauma and he has the skills and time to become a dominant heavyweight champion, he can take I'd say two more fights before fighting for a world title again.

 

A fighter can only contend within the division he competes in
If let's say the talent around him as you claim are not very good, what can he do?

And put the top 15 or 20 currently ranked fighters together and you'd have to say Hrgovic was a contender ((champion now)

A gatekeeper moniker amongst the current crop is absurd

 

Of course it's possible if you are mature and know about finance. Most people aren't like that though. Especially pro athletes. Most lottery winners end up broke and worse off than they were originally.

 

I don't understand why people are so quick to write off fighters after 1 loss.

Wladimir Klitschko had a very similar experience early in his career vs Ross Puritty where he gassed out and got stopped in the later rounds.

And Puritty was just a durable journeyman not even a legit top 10 Heavyweight like Hrgovic was. And look at the career that Wladimir went on to have.

David Haye is another one who gassed out early in his career against an old but tough former champion in Carl Thompson.

Again Haye regained and had a good career.

Itauma can definitely regain from this he's only 21 years old. He fought against an opponent that was a major step up for him and he was still a mile ahead on points.

And no one else in the division could take anywhere near as many flush punches as Hrgovic did who's simply got a granite chin.

Itauma needs to learn to pace himself a bit better and improve on his boxing iq and get more experience.

If Itauma is willing to put the work in its definitely possible he could still carve out a good career at Heavyweight.

Let's wait and see how it all pans out before we start saying a fighters career is over a 21 years old.

 

There has been much unnecessary hype leading up to this loss. Therefore, there should now be a little breathing space for whatever comes next. He's not 12 round material yet. Itauma is quick, but Tyson had more power to KO. He probably needs to concentrate on breaking fighters down with fast combinations, along with his quick defence.
