Most people still don't really understand what was happening in the Itauma Hrgovic fight

Sorry I've just go to come back to this again. Hrgovic did not by any means win round 3.

I've just watched it here two times again. Hrgovic is following Itauma around for 2 mins 40 seconds not doing anything.

Itauma landed at minimum 5-6 body shots, 2 clean jabs and a clean heavy left hand. Hrgovic did nothing for 2 minutes and 40 seconds, he may have landed 1 partially extended jab. He lands a clean right hand last 20 seconds, followed by another, but I think its a big stretch to give him the round for that. That is ridiculous, he did not win that round

 

The plan was to use his chin and drown him in the latter rounds. It worked.

Hrgovic ate shots that has dropped other fighters. His chin won him this fight. Itauma lost cause he has a lawnmower gas tank on a truck.

 

Agree with the statement above. Hrgovic also said "It was not me tonight, it was Jesus Christ in me.
Holy Spirit, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It was not me. I was losing every round. I was out boxed.
And I don't know where I got the energy in that ninth round. It was really not my strength; it was the Holy Spirit.
He was very gracious to Itauma, Abel Sanchez and his entire camp.
Have always believed inner strengths and abilities, not normally accessible, can be reached through belief in God.

 

THAT's a terrible take, you were not really paying attention to Hrgo not allowing Moses to rest at any point from round 3 onwards. Whilst we don't know what would have happened, the more Itauma rested / conserved his ouput the more it would have allowed Hrgovic to work and lead.

Watch it back, Hrgo had decent success with his jab in rounds 3 5 & 7, and from 5 on he put it on Moses in the last 45-60 seconds of each round; he was losing most of these rounds, but he was forcing Ituama to empty the tank with disciplined distance management, cautious but effective work when Itauma tried to take a breather.

Apparently landing punches loses you rounds now it seems. Itauma landed in the first two minutes ~ 3 clean jabs, clean left, right hook, and strong body shot.

Any of Hrgovic's 'success' came in the last 30 secs, and he basically didn't land anything. He landed a few partial jabs, but so did Itauma

Rounds 3 and 5 were Itauma's rounds.

 

I felt he won rounds 3, 5 &6

 

Sanchez did indeed say they were not looking to win on points as they would never get the nod anyway .

 

No fighter employs a plan like that. No matter how iron chinned. Their plan is to do deploy their boxing ability and if it doesn't work, hope their chin will enable to outlast the opponent. No fighter really TRIES to use their chin. More like they acknowledge it will come down to that cause their boxing ability is not up to par.

 

I've watched them back numerous times and counted significant punches per the post you responded to and the subsequent one. Hrgovic lost rounds 3 and 5, he got objectively outlanded
And by some margin.

Hrgovic isn't exactly high volume, he looked gun shy for 7 rounds or so because of what was coming back at him. I very much doubt Hrgovic would just take over. He relies on 1-2 over and over (or 1 - rabbit punch because he can't land clean), Itauma is a bit smarter than that, and it'll open Hrgovic up for counters

 

I guess history is written by the winners.

So the revisionist theory in vogue to day is that Hrgovic won 2 or 3 of the first 8 rounds. Was boxing Itaumas ears off. Flew like a butterfly. Stung like a bee. And he didn't fight...or look..Ike Frankenstein, as Tim Bradley reported pre fight.

I'm assuming that film of this bout will be lost like Greb-Tunney I.

Joe Joyce and Wadley entire career has been "I will eat your punches till you tire". Yea, they employ that plan cause they are either slower, not as skilled, can't cut of ring, or whatever the reason is. Hrgovic knew he would get hit and hit hard. He knew he was slower and wouldn't be able to avoid eating the power punches. The game plan was to take the early onslaught and take him where he has never been, beyond the 6 rnds. So eating punches was part of the plan. Even in his post fight interview Hrgovic said chin matters.

 

It's weird. Is this some goofy attempt to make Moses look better by claiming Hrgovic was actually competent in there?

Hrgovic got beaten from pillar to post the entire fight until the end of the 8th. He sorta kinda made the 5th round close-ish, but still lost. The other rounds were blowouts.

He did keep pressure on Moses when Moses stopped coming after him full bore the few times it happened, but that's about it. He let himself get pummeled, hung in there, and once Itauma ran his tank to absolute zero he clumsily put it on him. He landed some decent shots at the end there, but Itauma was dead on his feet. Any fighter with an actual competent offense would have sent Moses to the Shadow Realm at that point. Hrgovic just kinda kept coming forward and throwing enough for the ref to wave it.

 

So we can conclude that Mozes lost to the punching bag. It's unbelievable how much you humiliate him. And you love him.

 

After watching the fight, I don't think Hrgovic won round 3. Round 5 was close where Hrgovic had a good workrate, but Itauma probably stole that round with the last second uppercut. The 6th round also saw Hrgovic landing a lot of flush shots and he was starting to close the gap. He lost that round, but he his clean shots in the last 30 seconds probably had an affect on Itauma.

At the start of the 7th Itauma looked visibly tired and was slow to get out of his chair. Round 7 saw Hrgovic pressing and landing some shots, but the cleaner work came from Itauma. In Round 8, Itauma desperately tried to knocked out Hrgovic and blew his final load. In round 9, Hrgovic completely took over and knocked him out. Round 5 is a close round and you can arguably give it to Hrgovic, but that's it.

One thing to note is that Hrgovic's shots seem to do more damage on Itauma than Itauma's shots on Hrgovic. You can see the effect of those shots in the 6th round, which made Itauma wary.
