Fred, I always followed Tony's career back in the day and I loved the footage of the Tafer fight, which I had never seen. The Tafer win and the win over Mustafa Wassaja were two great wins as they were both upcoming hotshots and they came very late in Mundine's career. Two fights which he was not expected to win with the fanfare Tafer and Wassaja were receiving at the time. The old man still had something in him.

 

That's what I was thinking. The son had a bit of china in his chin as he got starched by that powder puff punching German.

 

It's cook Frank, you are not the first get a son mixed up with his dad.

if you ever watch the fight again, or see footage of the knockout, after about the count of 4, it was obvious mundine was out cold, referee wayne kelly applied the full 10 count..
i'm more than certain he did that to further humiliate mundine after mundine's sept 11 comments, and kelly being a new yorker..

 

I must admit I was surprised by those wins too. I really enjoyed the Pete McIntyre win, Tony dropped heavily early on, somehow survived and the came on. Complete copy not available on Youtube.

There was controversy over some long blows but gutsy fight from him.

The Bunny Johnson win (I rate Bunny) was an excellent win.

There is lots of hl footage about but the quality isn´t great.

FYI....I have a mob of rellos in Australia; all from Calabria, Italy. One of them, Pat Lamanna, was a boxer. I'm not sure when it happened
but he had a local TV fight where he was KO'd and suffered brain damage. He's been around for many years now, behaves like he had a stroke, slurred words and dragging a leg. But he has a daughter and the rest of the family takes care of him.

They are mostly in Dandenong.

 

That's sad mate. There was a guy in my hometown that was bashed by a mob and was never the same, dragging a leg exactly as you describe. You'd see him some days in summer jogging/fast hobbling around the streets.
