I predict Kabayel will fight Justis Huni in his first defense

I'm sure he'd take some free money if he got to take on the winner.

Nice reasoning. Wilder didn't fight kabayel, but I am sure that's just a typo and anyway wilder is an unlikely opponent as he is chasing the money and should know he doesn't have the style or prime to beat kabayel.

Huni really seems like a dangerous opponent, though. Could outbox kabayel. Wardley is super quick and that's why he got huni. Kabayel has to cut the ring off really well. He should be able to slow him with body work.

But from a promoter's view you would expect to see an easier style matchup like ajagba. Huni brings no money and kabayel is starting to generate money now...

 

Eh, you want a beatable guy who is actually a big draw, you fight Chisora in the UK, and you be damn sure to specify an agreed upon ref and judges in your contract.

 

A fight with Gassiev would have made sense considering it would be a unification fight.

 

Idk, depends what the goal is... One of the best fights for fans? Sure.

But for the fighters? Great for the winner, catastrophic for the loser.

Ultimately both are riding a wave of hype on top of a less than stellar (mixed or thin) resume - the winner would get hyped to the skies, the loser would have their meagre record picked apart and get panned pretty hard... It's just how boxing goes.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if neither camp wants it just at the moment - they might well want to milk their belts for a bit of cash first, and even if they don't their managers probably would.

I guess we'll see, but I would be very surprised if that happened anytime soon.

 

Huni already got an undeserved title shot against a super beatable opponent he choked against. He struggled with Clarke who has even less fights than him.

Huni's being overrated by proxy of Wardley being overrated. Kabayel's too much of a leap for him. He's got 14 fights he should spend another year or two building his confidence.

That being said it's probably Huni or Ajagba. They are the two that have looked the most vulnerable.

 

Huni lost to Wardley due to an early stoppage, and he took the fight on two or three weeks notice. I can't fully remember. Compare that to Parker's performance, where, yeah, he also got stopped unfairly early, but Wardley was making it super competitive with Parker, while with Huni, he might have won maybe the first round.

I don't think this fight is going to happen, though. Eddie Hearn was talking about Huni vs Ahio.

 

Good fight. Should give Kabayel a few rounds, but Huni's chin is glass, so he'll probably get stopped late.

 

I accept all Huni's Wardley excuses. I just don't think Wardley was very good. And the Clarke win only reinforced that.

Wardley came out strong early then faded same with Huni and Dubois. Against Parker Wardley got 2 early rounds. Not a huge difference.

Huni's 27 with 14 fights. He was thrown at a high level two fights ago and his performance shows he's not ready to fight guys better than that. He could beat Gassiev. But I think he's 50/50 with the lower elite guys.

 

I do agree that he needs more fights and shouldn't be fighting champions. I do think he would do well against any of the four champions, to be honest, whether he is winning or losing efforts, but I don't want to see him in big title fights yet. So I 100% agree with you. I just wanted to push back on the notion that Huni is some sort of bum, which is something I hear quite often for some reason.

 

Like I brought up in the "Is Moses done" threads Dubois, Moses, Huni, Jared Anderson and Torrez are poised to inherit the division. In 5 years everyone else at their level currently will be a minimum of 36 most will be 39+. Everyone their age is at their mercy to give them chances. All they've got to do is not take too many losses before all the other threats to them age out.

Huni did not deserve a title shot as early as he got it against an opponent who was just as green but he's talented. One of the best point fighters in the division if nothing else. Wardley beat Huni but no doubt Huni's better than him.

People use the phrase "bum" way too liberally. He doesn't deserve and/or doesn't have a chance with Kabayel.
