You can disagree with his take; I certainly do, but it isn't even in the top 100 most delusional takes in boxing. Lewis was a very good boxer, and he could have had a relatively easy night against all three in his prime. We’ll never know.

 

I think Merchant employed an interview technique that is seldom used today, which is questioning the interviewee with common questions or criticisms that the audience or general public might have, even if the interviewer doesn't even agree with those statements. Now we have podcasts filled with softball questions, where the interviewer is basically gargling the interviewee’s balls the entire time.

Merchant was unprofessional at times, though, and the clip you quoted shows that.

 

Merchant was a proper hatchet man loose cannon he was great value and came up with some classic stuff occasionally on commentary too. I still laugh at him saying ‘well they can’t be doing him any good’ when Steward said Oscar’s body shots weren’t really connecting cleanly very often as Floyd’s elbow was blocking most. One of the only times I saw a boxer out think Merchant was Hopkins when he told him ‘let me tell you something Larry, you get paid every day for doing nothing much on the tv’ after he dissed his boring performance in a routine title defense.

No defending the first sentence, but Lewis blowing Wlad away in the manner Sanders did would not have been that much of a shock. I think that Vitali fight is always a H2H nightmare for any version of Lewis really, but he probably does win it.

Yes, I just watned to point out how arrogant Lewis' claims often are. While he seems generally good guy, he boasts way too much how easily he would have beaten all those guys which competed after him. While actually he had problems in fights with far less gifted/skilled opponents in real life.
