How different does a peak Pacquiao- peak De La Hoya match look from their eventual meeting?

I agree it would be far more competitive. De La Hoya might even win. It would be a good fight.

 

Might be a hot take but I personally think Pac's style would have always troubled ODHL. Peak Pac beats even the younger version of ODLH at 135 - 147.

 

It would be more competitive but I still think Manny's speed, angles and reflexes would be too much for him. Oscar was actually the odds favorite to win that fight.

 

I think Oscar would take him to the very edge, and may even get a decision (depends on the judges again)

 

DLH was 'literally' dead at the weight. He hadn't made the weight in 7 years and came in at 145 and only weighed 147 in the ring. Pacquaio actually outweight DLH in the ring He burnt shedloads of muscle to make weight while being 35 years old

For context DLH in his WW prime, came into the ring weighing 155-160

For these reasons we can never know how DLH would do against Pacquaio in his prime when not dead at the weight.

 

Probably goes the distance. But De La Hoya almost beat Floyd 18 months earlier and was favored. You can't really take this away from Manny just because Oscar never fought again.

I think old De La Hoya does better against an older Manny than peak De La Hoya does against prime Manny. If that makes sense. Pacquiao was at a level where winning like 3 rounds against him was be an amazing accomplishment.

 

Very different. PAC from that fight against DLH from thefirat Mosley fight would have been a true dream match.

 

Oscar would beat up Manny at that weight if they met say prime for prime.
