What's keeping Dariusz Michalczewski from being in the IBHOF?

I've always wondered why Dariusz Michalczewski has yet to be considered for an induction to the International Boxing Hall of Fame given his impressive 23 title defenses as well as victories over Vergil Hill, Montell Griffin, Graciano Rocchigianni, Drake Thadzi, Richard Hall. Of course there's tons of other fighters on the ballot that are also deserving but I would think that someone with a long title defense streak would at least be in much sooner. It's not an entirely strong list of opponents that he's beaten and it's a shame that he and Roy Jones Jr never fought but he still had a good career on his own that at least warrants an induction.

His record is similar to that of Gennady Golovkin and Ricardo Lopez, both fighters having more than 20 title defenses while also not having the best opposition on their resume. Is there really something that's holding Dariusz Michalczewski back other than not facing Roy Jones Jr?

Something is preventing Dariusz Michalczewski from being in the HOF, but nothing is stopping Dariusz Michalczewski from being at the top of my list for 'Coolest Boxing Nicknames of All Time'.

I am pretty sure he has been considered for the Hall but just hasn't made the cut yet. I think you're comparison to Finito Lopez and Triple G is spot on. I would also throw Khaosai Galaxy into that group. Michalczewski hasn't made it yet but I do believe he will at some point. Currently, it is just the lack of a big win that has kept him out but he will get there.

I'm still confused about how Vinny Pazienza got in.

I don't know. They took away my vote when I proposed construction of the Henry Maske Wing.

Look I really enjoyed watching him and loved how he threw that hard jab and still was able to land it even against fighters with longer reaches.
Having said all that he is not worthy of the HOF.
Yes I know there are boxers in there that should not be there.
And lets be honest Roy would have literally massacred DM and it would not have been a competitive fight in any way.
And like I said I really enjoy watching him but there is never anything that would make me think he would ever be competitive with a talent like Jones.
And DM should have lost that first fight with Rocky too.

Wrong passport and made his name in the wrong scene

Frankly, I think DM has the better case than Hill and numerous others. Even if one doesn't agree with that conclusion, the line between DM and Hill isn't such that Hill should've gotten in as early as he did and DM still isn't in at all

I sure did enjoy finally getting his fights in the mail and watching them. What a tough guy. And he hardly gets credit for those whiskers. Or his accuracy. Or that determination of his. I think he fits right in w/ that crop of tough lh hombres from the late 70's.

But it simply boiled down to so many people not willing to spend money to see his fights. They heard of him but would just read about him 3 months > the fact in a boxing magazine.
