Hrgovic was put on ***** street by Adeleye, and Dubois has no issues landing body shots on him. Like I said, stylistically Hrgovic would be a good matchup for Gassiev, but the gap between them is massive.

Gassiev was getting outboxed by a shot to bits Pulev for a few rounds and dominated by Wallin. I'm not convinced at all that he would be a big favorite over Adeleye. If anything he'd have a better chance against Dubois than Hrg

Dubois is not a good matchup for Gassiev. I am talking about styles.

The guy lost to Wallin and beating a 45 y/o ancient Pulev while losing the fight up to that point doesn't rectify that (nor does his risible title defence against a complete unknown). He's a paper champion.

It is a somewhat reasonable take. He lost to Usyk in the world series final for CW division, defeating some quality fighters along the way. The defeat to Usyk was thorough and probably hurt him mentally for a long time afterwards. It took him a very long time to find his feet again, and had a couple of stumbling blocks, but losing to Usyk could still make him second best. I think he can stop a lot of guys with his power, but he can be outboxed and needs to find a way to get into the trenches with some of these fighters. Hrgovic, for example, would pose a very interesting challenge for Gassiev. He would need to throw the kitchen sink at Philip to knock him out, which would put him at risk of getting stopped from tiring later in the fight or getting caught when being careless. Dubois would also be interesting.

He was injured. He struggled with injuries for years.

Well yes Wallin is probably finished at being a notable Heavyweight.

But he still beat Gassiev which as I said doesn't look good for Gassiev with hindsight.

It's up to Gassiev to prove that was an anomaly and beat some credible top 10 Heavyweights.

I'm not that impressed with beating a 45 year old for a belt.

So I'll say again Gassiev until proves it he's just a former Cruiserweight. Who was put in a great position to win a belt at Heavyweight against an old man.

Hopefully, we need Russia to dominate the heavyweight boxing scene.

No chance. Gassiev is now older and has been struggling with injuries and inactivity. His boxing style has also regressed and it wasn't exactly highly developed anyway.

In an alternate reality, where Murat never got injured and actually developed his ring cutting, jabbing and head movement, he would have a very, very good chance imo. His talent was that good at one point. But it's too late now.

Ironic post because he is healthy for the first time in many years. Let's get him a big fight an then judge what he has left.
