If Muhammad Ali Fought Lennox Lewis At Their Respective Peaks..?

He stopped Liston, he stopped Frazier, and he stopped the iron chinned Foreman. All of these men were equal to or above Lennox in punch resistance. Ali may not be the hardest puncher that Lennox fought, but, he would be the fastest and most accurate. He has more than enough power to replicate what McCall and the limited Rahman did.

 

Peak Ali moves around too well. 5-1, Ali.

 

I think Ali wins. It's a rock paper scissors thing with me. Ali's kryptonite was pressure fighters and not other out boxers or boxer-punchers, not saying he can't triumph over all of em.

 

Lennox Lewis never really demonstrated the quality pressure, ring cutting, workrate, or body punching that’s needed to trouble Ali in my opinion. I think Ali would slip his Jabs and counter back with right hands, outlanding him more often than not for a decision win.

Ali UD over 12 or 15 rounds for mine and yes, it would require an absolute peak Ali I would think.

 

Liston was in his early 40's when he fought Ali. He went into their first fight carrying a shoulder injury and barely trained. Took a dive in the second.

He did not stop Frazier.
Frazier beat him in their 1st fight despite being a limited boxer: Frazier only had a left hook and he was partially blind in one eye since the late 60s. As soon as he landed that left hook clean, Ali went down.
In their 2nd bout, Ali kept holding Frazier’s head throughout the entire fight (a foul but never any warnings much less point deductions from the referee) thereby taking away Frazier’s inside fight game, and got the decision.
In their 3rd fight, Frazier was already washed up: overweight and completely blind in one eye.

Foreman punched himself out in the heat of Zaire.

Yet not as big and skilled. Liston was the most skilled of the 3, but past his best and not as big.

And Lewis would be the biggest and most skilled boxer Ali ever fought.

Lewis was not prime for McCall, he hadn't teamed up with Steward by that point.
And he took Rahman lightly and started to show off, letting his guard down. He showed he's way better in the rematch.
And no, Ali ain't got that power. Certainly not the power of the punch Rahman hit Lewis with.

 

He said Ali is gonna KO Lewis. That ain't happening in a million years. That's what's funny.

 

It took you about 10 paragraphs of excuses to respond to my simple analysis. Ali is just better than Lennox Lewis. It isn't any more complicated than that.

 

Lewis corrals him, contains him, overpowers him.

Genuine question, you've openly said that you hate fighters like Ali and Leonard, but like SRR, stylistic ironies included - why post in threads about guys you genuinely dislike?

Also, why do you say these things and then when people pull you up and provide example to the contrary, you disappear from that thread just to come back to the same sort of topic to repeat "X wasn't very skilled" and "Y didn't know how to (insert random skill)" that the tape actually shows them doing, in another thread?

 

Not really. There are out-boxers who are very skilled, I just don't think Ali is one of them.

I've never had anyone provide me proof that Ali was very skilled.
Ali was fast, had great reflexes and stamina. He developed a style built around his athletic abilities, nothing wrong with that, but that does not classify him as very skilled. I've never seen anyone provide evidence to support the contrary. The man had no answer for someone like Frazier, who was blind in one eye and only had a good punching arm and 1 type of punch, for ****s sake. If that's not proof he lacked world class skill, I don't know what is.
