How do you see this one playing out? Ortiz often metered out his aggression but could certainly go on the attack. Would he get caught too often with counters and shell up? Or would he penetrate and pressure Floyd into uncomfortable territory? Or would it be a waiting game of two guys looking to counter? Give me your pick and why.
I'm guessing this one has already been done to death and people need to be more concerned with Golota vs. Hrgovic. Totally understandable.
I'd give it to Ortiz. Ortiz fought Locche to a draw, who was considered one of the best if not the best defensive fighter of all time. Much of Mayweather's defense is not just making opponents miss, but excessive clinching and running as well. I think Ortiz solves that puzzle and wouldn't allow Floyd to tie him up constantly and Carlos could cut off the ring to prevent the movement long enough to get in his own punches. Castillo arguably beat Floyd in their first fight, I think Ortiz could pull it off as well.
Locche is a great defensive fighter but his actual offence is not great though. And Mayweather didn't run or hug at the lower weightclasses. He had genuine power at Super Featherweight/Lightweight fought more aggressively and at times stood in the pocket. Watch Mayweather vs Ndou at Lightweight to see an aggressive Mayweather.
PBF isn't Money Mayweather. Up and until Gatti, whilst his hands were healthy, he boxed, fought in the pocket and would stand and trade. I see no comparisons with Locche - PBF was pretty much a complete fighter.
