Fair play, can't argue with the general rule. Fighters definitely leave their legs in the sauna all the time, even when the scale says they're good.

Just don't see it being a factor in this specific fight. Benn is a natural welter and Garcia is moving up, not draining down. Neither guy is boiling themselves dry, so they should both be 100% on the night.

No doubt; Benn's forays to middleweight have probably made this a harder weight cut than this should be, but that was all his own doing and it is clear 147 or even 140 is his natural division. Whatever the outcome neither fighter can draw on excuses, and if the fight plays out as expected and Benn is outclassed, any excuses Benn can muster will put him in a class so low in my estimation I didn't even know it was there.

Yup, Oscar said: "I fought Pacquiao and I was a dead man walking. I walked inside the ring and my legs were shaking, and I was like, 'Please just knock me out, just stop me right here.'"

But let's be honest, Manny was one of the greatest of all time – that was the start of the incredible run he went on. And wasn't Oscar a big favourite going in too, with Pacquiao coming up from lightweight if memory serves? Truthfully, I just want it to be a good fight, and I think he's a live dog in the fight if the weight hasn't killed him, Shakur and Teddy Atlas amongst others have said as much in the build-up too. I wouldn't be unhappy if Ryan blasted Benn out in a couple of rounds either way. I just backed Conor, is all.

Edit: Benn up to 178 already.

Probably weighed in more fully clothed to make it look bigger.

Benn says himself "he's going straight to 160 or 168" now though. Eubank trilogy imminent.

There’s not a chance he’s that heavy it will be the classic mind games trick where he’s added hidden weights around his ankles or manipulated the scale. Ryan made a good point anyway, you can rehydrate as high as possible but the vital organs will be lacking. Good load of glycogen in the muscles and the look of being rehydrated can be a bit deceptive, it could be a dangerous fight for Benn if he goes far into the fight but cops a lot of punishment.

Yeah, I just added it for context – 30lbs in 5-6 hours could actually risk something like hyponatremia if he's just necking water without electrolytes. Brain injury's a genuine risk if it's not managed properly, like what happened to Leah Betts after she took an E and loaded up on water.

Edit : What do you think he can safely gain in 24 hours, and what will he come in at tonight?

They’re not bothered about building fighters. Fighters very very rarely make their MMA debut with the UFC. If Benn is no good they’ll just cut him.

Absolutely no way Benn is weighing 178, have you seen Anthony Yarde making 175, Benn has never looked like that

Honestly I’m not clued up enough on it. I’d imagine he’d be just above 160 in the ring tonight. Maybe @Heisenberg can comment as he works with fighters in camp.

Fight to go distance, both fighters knocked down, Benn wins decision, 180-1 on Paddy Power...
