Going into the SRL fight Norris duly acknowledged that Leonard was well past his best and further qualified that view saying that prime Leonard would never have been put down by the punches that had scored KDs against Ray in more recent fights.

The callers for the fight also noted the obvious deteriorations in Ray’s game as the fight unpacked.

All the same, “Terrible” still saw fit to commit a terrible foul - going out of his way to run a distance to land another shot on the already downed Leonard.

Yes, Norris should’ve been DQ’d for that, right then and there.

As it was, Norris still wasn’t able to put out that much lesser version of Leonard.

I'm sure you would be perfectly happy with that since his fans dont care HOW he won. They just want that name on his resume. and a DQ would be enough for them

The truth is, he didnt come close as predicted (or should I say, HOPED?)

Truth is, I never heard anything about Terry being the fighter favored to win. Did you?

I saw nothing but sports journalists picking Ray to win in another easy win, possibly in the later rounds. But as I've said before, I've seldom seen Ray decimate fighters early other than stiffs Andy Price and Dave Green. You can add on Larry Bonds except that his movement threw off Leonard who never had the best luck with movers. It just confuses him

add to that, Terry's hand speed AND power to put anyone back on their heels and Ray has a big problem

Think of it this way. It's like putting the heavyweight greats of yesteryear, the Tunnys, the Marcianos, the Fraziers, the Ezzard Charles's, Jack Sharkeys and so on , against modern day heaviews like Lennox Lewis or Riddick Bowe. They're going to get demolished because of the size disadvantage

and here you have the same situation between Leonard and Norris because of Terry's speed, defense and movement along with ring smarts.

In other words, he can up his game when necessary. That's what we saw and hence the unforseen mismatch.

It would’ve been simpler if you replied via just one post.

It was a DQ worthy foul period.

Very desperate of an otherwise allegedly superior Norris to try that on.

Leonard was clearly several notches slower than he was in his prime.

Overall, he was that much less energised and his resilience was obviously degraded also.

You’re the only person I’ve read who has completely and errantly failed to acknowledge Rays obvious deteriorations as at the time of that fight.

It wasn’t in a clip. It was quoted in an article relating an IV with Norris.

I might link it if I’m inclined/have the time but knowing that I read it for myself is more than sufficient for me.

There’s also the small fact that Terry’s pre fight views were perfectly upheld during the fight itself.

Again, Terry still couldn’t even KO/stop the heavily reduced version of Leonard - so there’s only so much for one to crow about.

not desperation when you're dominating your opponent. Did you not witness rounds 2 - 12?

Neither had I noticed any drop off from any of Leonard's performances

Did he not lose to Duran? He needed a late round tko to beat Hearns so why wouldnt he fall behind to Norris, or Floyd?

So if you dont see me mention a decline, its because there is none. Even the Benitez fight went a full 15, right up to the premature stoppage. i never thought much of Benitez anyways
Please, show me the newspaper clip of Terry's quote. i am very much interested in seeing it!

Terry wasnt supposed to last more than a few rounds and you're coming down on him because RAY lasted the distance?

Do you see anything wrong with what you just said?

Now i am very doubtful about the existence of this quote of yours. i don't think it exists

If posters believe other posters are using socks AI can help in determining if they really are. It's not dispositive, but it is enlightening.

The foul punch on a downed fighter, unable to defend himself and not expecting that he would have to defend himself, was indeed desperate and DQ worthy and you know Terry was guilty of same besides the instance against Leonard.

There was an 11 year age pull in Norris’ favour. Terry was just 23 yo, nearing 24 yo and Ray himself was 34 just a few months shy of turning 35.

Since the Hagler fight, Rays fight schedule was somewhat sporadic and certainly not ideal for a fighter already getting up in years.

Since Hagler, Ray had just 3 fights during the near 4 year intervening period before he fought Terry.

Ray’s last fight vs Duran was 14 months prior and that was obviously a match between two fighters who were well reduced versions of their prime selves. Ray merely posted a colour by numbers performance for the win.

About another 14 months after the Leonard fight we saw Roberto losing to Pat Lawlor - wow, another legend exposed.

Applying your “Ignore all context otherwise” analytical template, you would have to view Ray’s win over Marvin as stamping Leonard as being superior to Hagler at all and any other times during Marvin’s career. Yes, per your very own analytics, you do have to view that thusly.

What about the guys who Terry lost to in the late stages of Norris’ own career when Terry was what, just 29 or 30? Of course, those guys had the wood on Norris for all time also. Again, this is your logic, not mine.

I already gave you my answer re the possible supplying of said Norris quote. You asked again “please” but then you posted again just 3 or so mins later stating that you doubt that it even exists.

With that type of attitude you know shouldn’t expect to be accommodated at all. The quote exists and it exists just as much your screaming prejudice against and personal dislike for Leonard does.

Did you lose big money on a Leonard fight or something or did Ray beat one of your favourite fighters?

What exactly did Ray do to cause you such long term grief and heavy preoccupation.

I can only guess at the catalyst(s) for your deep seated prejudice and associated flawed analytics.

At any rate, it’s better that you learn to fish for yourself rather than having to always be fed the bleeding obvious. That is my gift to you.

I mean, you do know that your Robinson Crusoe in suggesting that Ray was not obviously deteriorated? - unless you can come up with anyone aligned with your own views.

Using Vegas odds to judge the viability of a fighter can lead to erroneous conclusions. Oddsmakers job is to get as close to even money on both sides.

dont you realize that Norris is prone to fouling? Some of his previous losses were disqualifications.

Now I can say that Norris did not look desperate for failing to stop Leonard in the second

Did he look like a desperate fighter in the rounds following? Dont bother responding if the question is not to your liking

there is no prejudice on my part. I merely point out the prejudice on the part of others and then use circumstantial evidence to quiet their boasting. What's wrong with that?

You keep replying to 1 post via 2 posts.

    Waadup wit dat?

I’ve corralled your splintered 2 post reply in order to reply in just the 1 post. Not so difficult.

    Yes, as I’ve already illustrated,
you are clearly prejudiced in your heavily biased treatment of Leonard and his career.

Citing that Norris fouled otherwise isn’t telling me anything that I haven’t already referenced myself - and referenced in just my prior post I believe.

My reference to said fouling carried a point in support, a point I don’t need to repeat - your mere repetition of that reference carried no point.

Ironically, your position is completely devoid of circumstantial evidence as well as the easily observed material evidence.

Now you might want to tell me who actually agrees with your position besides the air filled Wilson.

If you don’t want to that is perfectly fine. It’s not like you haven’t failed to converge with multiple counter points otherwise.

You might want to start looking for a new dance partner for this discussion and your completely unsupported arguments.

Perhaps it’s time for you to finally make peace with Ray and his irrefutable greatness.

The truth will release you from your long standing, self imposed encumbrances.

That’s another gift I am giving you. :)

If where a boxer is in his career is of no moment why doesn't it logically follow McBride>Tyson-Holmes>Ali>Liston? Must be other variables, no?
