With so many talented boxers, why does the boxing media pay so much attention to Conor Benn?

I largely agree, Conor is much less talented than his father who was also more of a tough guy than a boxer.
No sympathy for that dog killing piece of **** Mclellan though.
Thankfully Nigel landed only just enough rabbit punches to cripple him

Yeah he was a dirty fighter at times but he was world class

Plenty of fighters are dirty but that doesn't take away from their skill level

 

Nigel was well below the top dogs of his era

Id favor the likes of Jones and Toney to beat him without issue

 

Quite possibly he'd lose to both however that doesn't take away from my point
Tbh even in defeat I reckon he would have given both hell at points

 

Connor Benn has an exciting style and is a really good self promoter. Neither are true about Devin Haney, although Haney is of course miles better. Same goes for Shakur.

As for Boots, I mean, his style sure isn’t the issue.

 

eh. A whole arena booing is better than no reaction. Guys watching you because they want you to lose is just as profitable as guys watching you because they want you to win. Haney should just go full heel if that’s the reaction he’s going to get.

Name and hype. A good promoter has done wonders for him. Dragging faded fighters of the sofa to win is a sure sign of a fighter with major deficits. I'm not even sure he'd win a British title without everything being stack in his favor. Total hype job a 3rd Eubank is the only fight for him now or maybe Brook

His dad was legit on the other hand, complain about fouls all you want its not a tickling contest and its up the ref to impose the rules but Barkley, Malinga, Gman, Wharton are all wins that deserve respect amongst others. He was kill or be killed and more often that not got the win.

 

Also - British officiating gave Benn Sr the win over G-Man. How many warnings or how many times do you need to just flat out ignore illegal tactics to realize this? Same crap against Barkley. Benn SR is rated fine and Brit-level. Anyone who really knows boxing knows he'd get tore up by guys like McCallum, Toney, Roy.

 

The Celtic Warrior was better than Benn and Eubank but he isn't in the HOF. In all fairness Conor Benn has improved a lot. He worked very hard after some early life and death battles with mediocre journeymen to get to the position he's at. Despite the aforementioned improvements he's still picked his fights carefully(Eubank fights) another guy who never really escaped his fathers shadow and obviously had seen better days, and is clearly washed up and Prograis who has likewise seen better days. Garcia didn't even break a sweat in dispatching Benn and Garcia himself despite his talent is a very flawed fighter. They must have thought that Garcia would be a winnable fight due to his struggles and loss to Romero and then his having gone the distance with Barrios a guy who should have lost to grandpa Pac. It's all very telling to the level Benn is at even in the current chaotic WW landscape where no one top fighter has clear dominance. Even against grandpa Pac he might have his work cut out for him.

 

He was def overrated him and Eubank Sr, I don’t think either of them are better than a Groves for example but no one is gonna give a **** if Groves kids box.

 

The fact that Ryan couldn’t KO barrios was a little concerning since Barrios punch resistance seems to be gone and it feels like he’s not the same guy as he was against Ugas or at his peak at 140. That being said Ryan always beats him probably but it made me question his power
