FANTASY FIGHT: Manny Pacquiao vs Julio Cesar Chavez (15 Rounds/Poll)

I visualise a back and forth fight with both fighters enjoying their fair share of success.The deciding factor for me would be Chavez`s devastating body punches resulting in a stoppage win in the latter rounds

 

Honestly i know this will be an unpopular pick but I'm going with Pacquiao by decision.

I feel like Chavez is a tad too slow and aggressive come forward fighters didn't really trouble Pacquiao.

Pacquiao destroyed the likes of Barrera, Cotto, Hatton, Margarito.

It was more counter punchers that gave Pacquiao issues.

Maybe Chavez could slow Pacquiao down with body punches and get him to late on ? Especially over 15 rounds ?

But overall I think Pacquiao's speed, angles, southpaw stance, would him earn a decision.

 

I feel that Pac carried the 140 lbs better. He has my vote at this weight

Pac was tough, skilled and capable as a skilled boxer and a fighter,
but one word for me determines my betting money... and that is Hard, there is always a difference between a Tough Guy and a Hardman.

JCC was a Hardman who also possessed the above, so my money goes on Chavez.

 

Chávez wins by unanimous decision.
Chávez gets it for me , If he' doesn't try to out box Manny .He takes away his space , pounds the body and makes him fight on the inside.
This would be a very enjoyable fight and I can see calls for a rematch.

 

Chavez has the clear edge imo regardless of how he approaches Pac. If he barrels Manny into the phone booth he was the better infighter technically of the two and more advanced there and defensively responsible than Barrera, Morales, JMM by a bit; Hatton, Marg, Cotto etc by a mile. Really good at keeping his chin down, guard up and using his elbows, forearms, shoulders and sense of leverage to manoeuvre people mostly how he wanted while still having both hands free to punch, and he really shortened his shots well up close and timed/picked them well.

Prior to roboticizing with age (including his early days at 140) he was a fine classical boxer - puncher at ring centre as well, capable of very good lateral movement and just as fine a fundamental textbook counter puncher as Marquez imo if a bit less eclectic and creative with some of his choices. He could stand off and box plenty when he chose to. Being weight drained at 130 he was forced to against Lockridge and a Laporte who was in the mood to let his hands go and coped just fine.

His straight right at mid to long range, be it lead or counter, for me was one of the great shots below light welter, just as good as his left to the body. Always threaded through with great timing and precision and a very heavy debilitating shot despite not usually ending fights in one chop. And a punch Pac was vulnerable to when trying to hop into range to set up his own formidable left.

Pac wasn't hard to hit in general by all time standards imo when faced with an excellent fighter. An increasingly good trap setter though as he aged and deceptively capable of switching from jumping in square on on the centre line to finding the right sneaky angle and striking hard and fast with something an opponent could get caught off guard with, usually with significant effect. Chavez isn't going to rinse him by any means but I'd favour JCC.

 

My son, Detritus, he always says that Pacquiao is an MSM media creation. I didn't even know methylsulfonylmethane created media stuff. But it makes sense because I heard the only people that's met the dude has smelt sulfur, and flies was always near by his head. Makes you think about the nature of evil. Chavez KO7.

 

I'm one of those that actually favors Pac here. He's always done better against fighters who come forward and make it a fight. Pac's speed, footwork, power, unorthodox angles, and unpredictable attack pattern would give Chavez a tough night. I would expect Pac to give the same issues that Taylor gave Chavez except Pac would weather Chavez's assault and make it past the final bell to win a decision in a terrific scrap.

 

Chavez will look like his feet are in cement. Manny at 140 would be too fast and Chavez' style would play right into Manny's strengths. Manny by UD and possible late round stoppage.

 

Shee-it.. Good one. Tough call at 140.

Such is my respect for Chavez, the boxer, that I would pick him over Pacquiao, the fighter.

Chavez should respect Manny's power though.. it's real.. that loping right hook over the top.. and, my goodness, that straight left.

 

Feel 15 favours Chavez, think he take over late and wins a close decision.
