He can't beat anyone at 160 that has decent handspeed and a punch.

As much as I dislike Benn and I found his split from Hearn hilarious, from a sporting perspective it was a terrible move. Hearn was invested in his career and in Benn as a person, and you are right in that Hearn would have pulled out all the stocks to try and rebuild Benn after such a loss. Dana White on the other hand will drop Benn like a hot potato whenever it is expedient.

 

Benn should have been a career welterweight, certainly no higher than light middleweight. Without the eggs he has zero power to gain respect from the big boys in the division. His best bet is trade off his name and secure fights against domestic rivals like Josh Kelly or Liam Smith.

 

I don't know why people are saying Zuffa used him. Hell he made 8 figures that many boxers better than him would never get. I think it was a rumored 15 million for the Prograis fight alone.

There is a line of fighters who would love that kind of abuse from a promotor.

As for where does he go? Run his mouth and fight the British circuits. You Brits would shell out money hands over fist for it.

 

That statement is fair enough, although he vacated the ring without giving an interview he did congratulate Ryan and speak with him so I understand he must have been gutted and completely shell shocked. He is an entertaining fighter, was just completely out of his depth and everybody seemed to know that but him. If he fights at a level more appropriate to his limitations he can have a fun career and maybe even develop into a better fighter.

 

British rivalries because he got melted by a LW that gorged into the WW division, and even with WW being very weak, he's not world level. He would literally get his head flown by at least 7 guys at JMW (which I think is currently probably the strongest division), MW is weak but they're too big for him let alone SMW.................yeah his best bet is to focus on creating and pocketing money from domestic rivalries.

 

You can still be paid well and used

 

If you think anyone is using Benn please give me what you are smoking. Benn conned his way into mega fights and pay and you are still saying he was used? It is the opposite. He used the promotor.

I would love to hear your side on how he was used.

 

Used as a pawn between promotions and in trying to establish US boxing again

Sure Benn has bluffed his way along, we all know this
But watch him be pretty much dismissed soon by Zuffa

He didn't really use any promotional company either as Matchroom have made money from him eventually

He has been very well compensated in the meantime

 

Used as a pawn? How? He is a freelance contractor. Like any contract work, you are paid for what you can deliver. Benn choose to leave for more money.

I still fail to see how he was used.

This is how I see it. He was a pawn to build the Zuffa brand and get one over Eddie, plus hook in real fighters like Garcia which might lead to Teo and whoever whoever else.
Benn earned huge out of it, way beyond his ability, so everyone’s a winner.
