Does Floyd deserve more credit for not being a big weight cutter?

If I correctly recall and I’m shot out so I’m probably wrong he used IV to rehydrate after a weigh in which is illegal ? What relationship does that have with roids

You mean he diluted his pee with IV ? If that’s the case then they would instantly retest him because of a diluted sample as anyone who’s ever been on probation would know

IV rehydration was banned in combat sports because it was a common way to mask previous PED use. It had less to do with the weight cutting aspect itself. The UFC banned IV rehydration pretty much solely for PED reasons when USADA came in.

No the IV situation alone is bad enough but then you had him drag guys up in weight and make Canelo come in at 152

He just fought smaller fighters who fought at lighter weight classes.

The Marquez fight was so obvious. Took a year and a half off. Offer a catchweight and pay the fine..

He never fought Kostya or Paul Williams..

    Great defensive fighter though

Mayweather probably DID cheat. He’s the one who used illegal IV’s before the Pacquiao fight..

I remember when Floyd was unable to make the catchweight for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight.

    https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Floyd_Mayweather_Jr._vs._Juan_Manuel_Marquez
    • The weight limit for the fight was originally 144 pounds. Two days before the weigh-in, Mayweather's team made overtures to Golden Boy Promotions in an effort to have Marquez agree to change weight on the bout agreements to be filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. However, Marquez's contract had already been filed reading 144 pounds, according to commission executive director Keith Kizer. But Kizer said the bout agreement was retrieved from the commission by Golden Boy Promotions and changed to 147 with Marquez initialing it. Mayweather's contract with 147 pounds was not filed with the commission until minutes before the weigh-in on Friday. Kizer said it was supposed to be filed on Wednesday. Kizer said the Mayweather camp asked to file it Thursday and he said OK, but that deadline also came and went. "We were very unhappy with the lateness of Mr. Mayweather's contract," Kizer said. Kizer said that had the bout agreements not been changed to 147, Mayweather would have faced a fine from the commission in addition to whatever penalty he had agreed to pay Marquez, which was $300,000 per pound. For being two pounds overweight, Kizer said the penalty would have been 10 percent of his purse, or $1 million. Had he been three pounds over, the figure would have jumped to a 20 percent fine.
Mayweather was a big welterweight, and a weight bully at the lower weights. Watch the Hatton, Marquez, Guerrero and Pacquiao fights, see how much bigger he was than those opponents.

He was taller and longer yes but his weight was never much higher than his opponents.

He wasn't doing these 25 lbs cuts like fighter today are doing.

Look at Crawford talk about how big he really is between fights.

Floyd would be seen as tiny today.

I just remember JMM looked like an emaciated old man vs Floyd, and a jacked monster vs Pac and later 147 bouts. Lol!

I was doing some research to see if there was any documentation of Floyd’s fight night weights anywhere. I saw that a poster called thread stealer listed these from a bunch of his pre welterweight contests.

    Mayweather 139 G. Hernandez 139
    Mayweather 138 Manfredy 139
    Mayweather 135 Gerena 135
    Mayweather 136 Juuko 140
    Mayweather 139.5 Vargas 141
    Mayweather 136.5 Corrales 146
    Mayweather 139 C. Hernandez 137
    Mayweather 137.5 Chavez 136
    Mayweather 138.5 Castillo 147.5
    Mayweather 138 Castillo 147 (rematch)
    Mayweather 140 Sosa 145
    Mayweather 140 Ndou 147
    Mayweather 145 Corley 144
    Mayweather 142 Bruseles 150
    Mayweather 148 Mitchell 155
    Mayweather 146 Judah 150
    Mayweather 149 Baldomir 162

If we go off that you can see he wasn’t even rehydrating northwards much different before he got to welterweight, and if anything Floyd was the epitome of consistent in everything he did. I remember some of his welterweight ones and they were a similar range to these.

Yes! He was on steroids, just like: Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Álvarez, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Márquez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah, Arturo Gatti,... and the rest :) That's how I see professional sports (boxing).

Him and Manny deserve way more credit for not weight bullying. The amount of weight guys like Crawford, Haney, Keyshawn and Boots rehydrate to is actually pathetic.

Floyd always fought around his walking around weight. If he got to a point that it became a struggle to make weight, he would just move up. You have fighters today who will drain themselves down to a weight class until it becomes a detriment to their performance. You got Bomac admitting he made Crawford drain down to lower weight classes to have an advantage and didn’t advise moving up until Crawford could really no longer make the weight. To be honest, that’s most fighters. So yeah, Floyd is pretty rare in a modern sense in how he managed cutting weight.

For me, Floyd deserves more credit, period. He may not be a decent human being, but what a fighter.

No. He claimed his walking around weight was around 154/155. Yet while preparing for the biggest fight of his career, he only needs to lose 7 or 8 pounds to make weight but somehow dehydrates himself to the extent he needs an illegal IV to replenish fluids? I'm not buying it. He knows his body well enough not to get severely dehyrated where he woudl require an IV. He also refused to be weighed on day of the fight with both Manny and Marquez, he was clearly bigger than 155 in the ring. He was obviously masking PEDs.
