Someone bringing up Camacho to make a point about Floyd Mayweather (Jr or Sr) is certainly a choice.

 

And someone bringing up the context of it is a choice as well.

 

I came to the thread to enjoy the discussion of Leonard vs Mayweather … and I see pages of Camacho vs Davis.

I was trying to understand what was going on. I guess I should have jumped in to talk about Vilomar Fernandez instead.

He has this notion that as fighters age their chin and the ability to take punishment remains the same as you and I know that's not true.
Davis came up because he thinks somehow Davis had a good chin when in fact it often let him down and only his tremendous will and heart kept him from getting stopped.
I believe he referenced Davis as having as good a chin as a Joe Frazier citing how each had been knocked down multiple times.

 

Its fair to say Norris probably carried Ray that nite. He idolized Leonard and knew he was in control. At least in my own view he didn't press real hard to get a stoppage.

 

I actually see this one being a stalemate. You have two of the most skilled boxers who ever lived, so which one is going to outskill the other? I think it would be a glitchy fight.
There would be shoulder rolling and bursts of flurries from Ray that Floyd would nullify. I think it would be so glitchy that Floyd would end up stealing a decision. If you're picturing Ray in the last moments of the Hearns fight, where he has Hearns sliding down the ropes out on his feet—that doesn't happen to Floyd. Floyd wins by decision. Crowd boos. Ray smiles and shakes his head upon hearing the decision

 

nothing wrong with Davis' chin. Was he knocked out before meeting HC?

Leonard was decked several times throughout his short career, staggered multiple times in two fights in 79, 80 (Geraldo, Duran), decked by Howard

But was not knocked out. Why not pin the same label on Leonard as you do Davis?

We know all you're trying to do is grasping at straws trying to find a weakness in Camacho. And why?

Because he tarnished your man's reputation for never having been stopped

He took his virginity away

 

That's how I see it. Ray would have to pressure him but pressure is not one of his strengths and would become exasperated as the rounds go by with Floyd winning pretty much all of them. Floyd would never hurt him but he's just too slippery for him and Ray wouldnt figure him out in time

 

Ray all the way. Too skilful and too busy.

Of course Floyd would only ever agree to fight the ‘97 version of Leonard to maximise whatever his best chances are.

In so far as avoiding comp. at their actual best, Floyd was indeed an evasive genius.

 

Maybe and def. possible, but Terry did run quite a few incriminating steps to clock Ray while he was down in round 4?.

At best Norris’ chin wasn’t so great so perhaps he was being mindful of same also.

Just imo, there were moments when Ray went on the offensive during which you could easily and justifiably extrapolate in your minds eye into ni-nights for Terry had it been the ultra fast, powerful Leonard of old.
