Advances in sports psychology is certainly a new one

I mean, does Floyd have the advantage of being in an era with psychology books catered to athletes ? Coz he's certainly not reading those.

Or are fighters braver today, with more heart and superior killer instinct ? I saw Floyd yelping and complaining about getting bit by Maidana and had to resort to sucker punching Ortiz after a headbutt. Certainly his right to do that as a competitor, and you could argue the latter was even deserved.

But that's not a man whose psychology is stronger than that of a guy who killed a man with his own hands and then proceeded to put on arguably the most evil beating captured on film anyway.

 

The 1951 fight wasn’t Ray as a prime welterweight. Is there good footage of the earlier ones?

Lamotta is also a bad proxy for Mayweather.

 

The lack of footage for SRR makes it hard to compare in a way.

 

It's a prime Robinson. You said you'd never seen him in his prime, he's in his prime there. I think there's a couple of fights from earlier with Angott and Fusari, maybe a few 2/3 minute clips, and one as an amateur.

Which fight has Floyd had that's a proxy for Robinson?

 

From my understanding less than 10% of SRR's fights are up fully and none from his peak supposedly.

 

I don’t think there’s anything going on in that footage to use as proof that he was the greatest to ever fight. He looks a lot like Shane Mosley and probably was better at a lower weight.

No clue who to use to compare to Mayweather, but it definitely isn’t Lamotta or Olson.

I perfer to access his standing in terms of greatness rather than H2H anyway. But with like 5% of his career fully on film it's hard to gauge and of course if Mayweather best was really at welterweight is debatable anyway.

 

The hardest part of this fight will be dragging Floyd into the ring with Ray Robinson at 147lbs. I give Mayweather no chance, what's he gonna do, show Ray something he's never seen? Will he get in a firefight when Ray comes after him? he can't outbox him so his only hope is to clutch, hold and run and try and go the distance while dropping 10 rounds at least, probably gets stopped if the Sugar man gets pizzed.

 

Shane would be similar to an aging Robinson.

 

Sugar Ray Robinson was battle hardened and used to going 15 rounds. He was just as pretty as floyd ( N H) and twice as tough. I can't see anything else other sugar ray getting to him and stopping him and I aint even reached 50 years old yet! I do know a legend when I see one though and as great as floyd is, he isn't SRR great

 

And how would Robinson win this exactly?

 

Why do so many people do matchups with Floyd at Welterweight? It's clearly his worst weight class.
