Marquez went from being a chubby 135er to being a murderous puncher at 147, lean, ripped and with acne.

He literally punched Alvarado across the ring

Floyd was also known to have injected lidocaine into his delicate hands. Thomas Hauser claimed there are sealed documents that he did so for at least three of his fights. While not banned by WADA it was banned by NSAC. The NASC would initially ban/suspend Lloyd Honeyghan for using it, then later changed it to a fine. More proof that NASC was in Floyd's back pocket.

Fast foward to his illegal IV which was used to flush and mask his PED use. He also tested for low testosterone levels for the Ortiz and Guerrero fights, which is highly unusual for a world class athlete. Anti-doping experts note that an abnormally low T/E ratio can happen when someone introduces synthetic epitestosterone into their body to lower their overall ratio and trick drug tests looking for artificial testosterone.

On same note should he be given credit for win , when he did a catch weight against a smaller Marquez, and then not even making weight?

Floyd was not a big weight cutter, but he also avoided any big and dangerous fighters in his division. Perfect example was his catch weight shenanigans against JMM whose previous fight was at 135.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Márquez (Sept 19, 2009, MGM Grand):

Fine: the contract called for Mayweather and Marquez to weigh 144 or less, and sources reported Mayweather would be fined $600,000 — $300,000 per pound over. That $600,000 penalty (Floyd was 146) was added to Marquez's purse on top of his guaranteed $3.2 million, while Mayweather still earned his full $10 million.

Fight was billed as welterweight (147 lb limit) but privately agreed at a 144 lb catchweight — Mayweather simply didn't make the lower number and paid the contractual penalty instead of forfeiting the bout.

He could have fought Margarito or Paul Williams and been destroyed.

Floyd was so talented that he fought near his walk-around weight. This is very rare in modern boxing...though Inoue and Usyk both come to mind.

HOWEVER, it must be mentioned that Floyd used weight to his advantage too. He required a CW against Canelo and then he signed a CW w Marquez but reneged on that CW days before the fight...

Which big and dangerous fighters did Mayweather avoid in his divisions? Looking at his resume he fought fantastic opposition if we hold him to the standards of most of his peers. Realistically he couldn’t fight every single fighter. We have the Margarito possibility but I can’t think of many others apart from Floyd and Manny not being able to agree to a fight for various reasons in their primes. Williams the time was around 2008 for that contest and he fought DLH and Hatton if I remember, two very good opponents, one much bigger and one slightly smaller. Could say well he didn’t have to retire, I can’t remember why he had a break. The top rank/haymon divide was also a massive issue eventually so that prevented a lot of potentially great match ups.
