He was not buried & neither I nor anyone I see here made it a sweeping judgement of his entire life.

How do we know Ali would agree he was an idiot to hit woman-or preaching murder for romantic race mixing as late at 1975?

Yes, we should be judged & measured by the same standards we use on others.

The terrible treatment of official America did lead to some terrible b(l)acklash. And much great, Heroic resistance that corrected terrible wrongs.

But we must judge everyone by what they did & how they reacted.
Just like U.S. Crimes like overthrowing sovereign governments & leaders like imposing the Shah of Iran, & supporting or installing other even more brutal Monsters, both directly contributed to & does not slightly excuse terrorists murdering innocent civilians.

The fact that this fight was allowed to happen is a disgrace.

 

Don had options on Trevor Berbick.

Which meant the promotion, legally/on paper at least, had to cut him in on the fight or make financial arrangements to use him.

So Don flew down to the Bahamas to assert his position.

Don’s story is that he confronted the promoter, who sent over some thugs to work him over, losing a tooth and getting beaten down. He also claimed that in the course of getting beat up, he slipped a couple hundred dollar bills to a couple of the thugs and they backed off the beating at that point and said ‘that’s enough.’

Promoter James Cornelius’ version is that King barged in, physically accosted him and punched him several times in the face.

I tend to believe this is a ‘two things can be true’ situation — Don assaulted the promoter, who in response sent over henchmen upbeat him up.

Bottom line, Don got back on the plane and left without a result, licking his wounds.

After being treated in Fort Lauderdale for broken nose and teeth, among other injuries, Don flew to New York and filed charges for assault in the Bahamas.

(I think there are some representations that the thugs were Nation of Islam and others that they were local islanders and Trevor may have been part of rounding them up — he wanted the Ali fight and didn’t want Don to stand in the way.)
