Brickhaus, I agree with you mostly on point #2.

Arreola needs to get himself in much better condition, losing more than a few pounds off his waist. He'll have trouble with fighters that have better footwork and faster hands if he doesn't get lighter on his feet himself. IMO he just looks too heavy and flat footed, but the guy does generate a lot of power in his punches.

I think Arreola has the potential to beat almost everyone out there in the heavyweight rankings but the Klitschkos would weather his early storm and knock him out late, based on his present conditioning. I don't see Jameel McCline or Shannon Briggs as a threat to Arreola, but I'd bet Chazz Witherspoon would do better in a rematch against him, knowing what happened the first time.

With regards to points 1 and 3, I think this all goes back to having the appropriate trainer work his butt hard in the gym and keep his head focused. The most important factor with regards to fundamental boxing is whether the trainer and fighter can incorporate the basics and apply them to the natural style without changing too much and taking away the immediate strengths.

With that being said, I'd like to see Chris Arreola take on Sam Peter, Valuev, or get rid of John Ruiz for good. I don't think Arreola is ready for either Klitschko brother right now. Forget David Tua, unless Tua has lost some serious weight and is in better shape.

There are far better prospects out there than Arreola. Solis and Boytsov for example.

 

Are you nuts? The three you mentioned have faced and defeated much better opposition than Arreola has. To date Arreola's best win is Damian Wills, who's record has slightly less mediocre fighters than Witherspoon's.

Povetkin has wins over Chambers, Byrd, Donald and Ahunanya.

Valuev over Ruiz (2), Donald, Lyakhovich, McCline, Barrett, Vidoz, Levin and Nobles, all being better or equal to Wills.

Chagaev has wins over Ruiz, Valuev, Virchis and Skelton.

Not a chance. No matter how poor the heavyweight division gets (I think it's fine BTW), there will always be enough skilled fighters to box circles around him. That doesn't mean he's not fun to watch, though.

Defninitely a top 20 guy, maybe he gets lucky.

Already top 20, and probably will crack the top 10. At this current rate he'll get a title fight in a year or so (as long as he doesn't f8ck it up); and, he might get lucky depending upon who he gets.
