This really is debatable.Buater Douglas was a light-hitting boxer who put Tyson down for the count.Holyfeld was a good puncher at Heavyweight, not a devastating one but he also stopped Tyson when he was still good.In 2002 when he fought the murderous Lennox Lewis Tyson was a shattered shell of what he once was, nonetheless he gamely took a severe beating before getting ko'd in 8 rounds. In all of these fights Tyson took severe punishment before being knocked out.Overall I'd say Tyson had a pretty good chin.
i concur. foreman was only out for ali, and dropped by lyle, but i say he has a great chin. marion wilson probably the best imo
When Buster Douglas stopped Tyson , it was only after hitting him flush for 10 rounds. One punch alone did not turn the tide of the fight. Even as late as the 8th , Tyson still had one punch power. By the time Holyfield got Mike, Tyson was losing steam, but he still didn't go out that easy. Mike had a real good chin.
Buster Douglas was not a light hitting fighter. He'd set up his big punches by jabbing you silly. He was probably one of the biggest underachievers in the sport but on the nights he achieved he could crack.
Douglas' record was 29-4-1 18 ko's against poor quality of opposition.I accept that he gave Tyson a bad beating first but he still knocked him out clean in the tenth round.I think Tyson had a good chin if he had a great chin he would not have been stopped by Douglas and Holyfield.
Mike was an excellent defensive fighter in his prime. His head movement made him very hard to hit. So many guys were afraid to swap with him, and that makes this a good debate. But all of his losses were by (T)KO and one DQ. Sorry Mike's chin, you're weak.
Loved that fight. Had a copy of it, but loaned it to a teacher of mine and never saw it again. :verysad
He had great punch resistance, but not tide-turning punch resistance - he didn't have the type of chin that would see him climb of the deck to change the tyde of a fight he was losing. You can't say he lacked heart (Lewis) but his head went down after he had been hurt. In literal terms he had a great chin, in real terms it is questionable because if you beat him, he backs down.
