Well, Tyson was stopped as often as Patterson and compared to Patterson by lesser fighters - Patterson was only KOed by atg Liston (2-times) and by Johannson who is one of the hardest punchers hw history knows (and he had to drop him 7 times to stop him) and TKOed two times by Ali. Ali was stopped by fighters like McBride and Douglas. So, if people claim Patterson had a weak chin, what kind of chin had Tyson? I agree that Patterson avoided the big punchers after beeing knocked out by Liston but he still faced solid punchers like Bonavena. Tyson fought on average more big punchers without beeing knocked out. Imo their chins are very comparable and just fine, i.e. slightly above average.
Tyson's chin was damn good....he got knocked out a few times when he was in his decline but I think that had more to do with being mentally broken and defeated than not being able to take a punch.
no, you're judging it wrong, you can look at records all you want but in the douglas fight, tyson was getting tagged all night long. if you're getting hit that much, your going to go down eventually. at tyson is a come first fighter so he suspetible to getting hit alot when he is not moving his head. if you want to see how good tyson's chin is, watch his fights with razor ruddock.
and is calzaghe a big puncher? and lacy was breaking down towards the end anyway. if you keep on getting tagged on the chin and then you throw in fatigue in the mix, eventually you going to go down or come close to it.
