How good is Linares?

Neither of the two that have dropped him have had snail-like speed, and the last KD was the cause of an elboww to the jaw, not a punch. He still managed to get up within a second or two each time he's been dropped, which has only legitimately been once. The first time was a ludicrous all.

Linares's defense needs work just like Gamboa's does, the difference is he doesn't have the talent to make up or it in other areas, and regardless of his more up-right style, he's not a more skilled fighter than Gamboa either.

 

He looked really good against Larios. Stopping him, unlike Pacquiao three fights before.

 

pretty good. I've been watching him for a while now. At 126 he was better than Guerrero and Gamboa, not as good as Chris John.

at 130, if he hasn't lost a step due to injury, i think he is the best fighter right now. Rocky Juarez, Valero, Soto would be good difficult tests. He will probably fight Isreal Perez or something of the sort

 

He was definitely stunned before he was elbowed, and the first KD (previous to the Ramirez fight) was not a fluke. He recovred from those KDs alright, and was impressive after that, but it is clear, base on his talent, those carelessness should not be happening. And it happened in his last few recent fights.

If he can stay up on his feet in his next few fights and exhibit more maturity on his defense, I would favor him over Linares.

But at this point, Linares has shown more consistency and a style that IMO can beat Gamboa.

To be honest, I didn't see any special thing about him in his fight against JMM. Linares is more promising I think.

 

Linares =the next Bojado.

 

what makes me laugh is how certain people say Linares is overrated because people think he would beat Gamboa. You don't need to have beaten the Manny Pacquiao's of this world to be able to beat Gamboa. Gamboa has alot of potential too but as of today he is less developped than Linares.

 

hes overrated cause people say hes the new Arguello and ive even read one say hes the next SRR,this cause they say he looked good fighting bums.
Bojado looked great against bums and then look what happened.

 

yea i think John is a real talent. Its too bad he only fights in his continent but lets be real here most top fighters only fight in their continent. The exception being Manny Pacquiao and other than that a few Europeans are just starting to go overseas but that was not the case 2 or 3 years ago.

John is tall, fast, good footwork, good denfense, good counterpuncher, alot of confidence (he thinks he is the best featherweight of all time), a ton of experience (almost 10 titles defense), and young (29 years old). the guy has a pretty decent record and like it or not he beat Marquez officially and if you disagree with that then he at least gave Marquez one of the toughest fights of his career.

He is not very strong, i think thats his main weakness. Other than that he is a great fighter, very underrated.

If Linares can achieve as much as Chris John has by the time he is 29, I think that will be pretty incredible. If he can achieve more, then he will no doubt be in everyones top5 p4p

 

man forget that there are idiots who will say anything. Some people think Berto is the next Sugar Ray Leonard and some people think Pavlik is as great as Carlos Monzon. There will always be a few people who say stupid things but you can't say a fighter is overrated cause of a few crazy people.

 

Fair assessment then.

I just want to see him strut his wares against top level competition in a neutral ground, becasue otherwise, he would end his career as a forgotten champ, which would be a shame.

 

Neither John nor Linares are anything special. Pharoah just really doesn't know how to analyze fighter's abilities.

Linares is underrated compared to Gamboa, who has been dropped by bums, and even with immense amateur experience, still makes amateur mistakes. Jesus Christ, people are saying Gamboa is the best prospect since a young roy jones and can beat pacquiao right now.

A few overrate him, the usual suspects, but I think he still has worlds of potential, even if he won't reach it due to his ego. He's still much better than Linares IMO, who definitely strikes as a stiff fighter with little speed outside of combos when he's able to pull them off.
